Gender change and Mog Station items

I'm quite shocked because I have just been told on reddit that we can't trade male items we buy from Mog Station for female ones. I thought you could trade all of them, but I can't get why that isn't the case.

I was thinking of changing into a Viera, but this seems like a really dirty decision. It means that, apart from having to spend money on Fantasia, all my previous money goes to waste. If I do so, I'll just have a Nezha set taking up space in my inventory, which means I paid extra money to be able not to use it.

Things get even worse when you realise gender lock IS an issue now. It would be kind of acceptable if we had the option to become a male Viera, but that is not the case. There will be a lot of people becoming Vieras, just losing their money without realising and with no other option. Want to play Viera? Your money is now wasted. Of course, same case applies to female characters becoming Hrothgar.

Why isn't there an option to equip them like the last 2 summer events? They are unisex but their appearance changes depending on the gender.

You can though for most items iirc. You can do so at the Calamity Salvager. For example, if you have a yukata for females, you can exchange it for a male yukata. Same for wedding dress/groom outfit, and more.

I've always disliked how the mogshop gear doesn't just change appearance depending on your gender (like almost every other piece of gear in game. If they can't do that, they should let you swap the items at an NPC. Also, let us put the things in the armoire while you're at it.

You can though for most items iirc. You can do so at the Calamity Salvager. For example, if you have a yukata for females, you can exchange it for a male yukata. Same for wedding dress/groom outfit, and more.

You can definitely do this, but it's not "most items" unfortunately. It covers the wedding outfits and older seasonal gear, but not more recent gendered items such as Mog Station exclusives, even though they are often clearly in gendered pairs.

There's some logic to making separate male/female items when the outfits look considerably different - you can see the result of not doing it with last summer's beach outfit(s) because the female frilly blouse and bikini bottom still gets the icon of the male shirt and shorts - but they really need to update that male/female trade-in menu.

Pretty much the reason why I'll probably never change my character gender (had a wish to play as female Roe), because I have almost all male-only outfits from Mog, so becoming a female character will move a significant amount of money to trash can. Though you still could use them on your retainers or squadrons, but... c'mon.

Thanks God that we at least can swap Seasonal gear on Calamity Salvager. I'm not sure if you can do it with "replica"s bought from Mog, though. Probably can as well? They should work the same.

I just checked, you can transform female gear to male gear and vice versa with :

Wedding clothings
Swiming suits (all colors)
Lightning's set to Snow's set
Yukatas and Suikans
The Valentine thingy (the apron I think ?)

And that's about it. Unless I missed something in the PNJ's choices

These are all Seasonal rewards from previous years (excluding wedding clothes), yeah, you can transform them. There are also few other seasonal sets that should be changable. Mog-station exclusives (like Korean and Chinese styles) aren't, sadly.

It works - because it's not 'replica' gear, it's just the same actual item that was available from the original quest.

As far as I've seen, only housing gets the altered replica versions... for no good reason as far as I can tell.
