I know it's way too late in this event to reconsider rewards, but it seems one might consider the consequences of the current reward structure when designing future events.
One might start by considering "Moggle Tomestones per unit time" as a measure of reward, and then consider the implications of what has been done.
(1) Low level players are at a significant disadvantage since they can only get one tome per 40 or so minutes by doing the low level dungeons.
(2) Mid level dungeons are no better. Stone Vigil or other mid level dungeons take 40 or so minutes to complete - I'm sure you have a better timing that I do - but only reward one tome. [ I suspect, but have not verified, that all light party dungeons are designed to take between 30 and 40 minutes by a competent party.]
(3) for 50+ players, both CM and TP reward 3 tomes, but TP takes almost an hour, so running that for tomes makes no sense. Also, I'm not clear that the MS Roulette rewards tomes so you can't, even once a day, get advanced XP and tomes at the same time. Since TP takes twice as long, shouldn't it reward twice as many Moogle Tomes? What is the reason that the MS Roulette does not reward tomes?
(4) Given all this, all players with access to a 50+ job have only one viable option: spam CM. And it takes basically all day - about 8 hours of play on a healer or tank with minimal queue times - to get a mount. I'm sure we all know this by now. I'm just reminding us.
I'm not sure what the goals of this event were from SEs point of view, but clearly the reward structure:
(1) Does not reward low level players for attempting to advance toward Shadowbringers. Many days of grinding for just one mount?
(2) Does not provide new players to FFXIV with a meaningful way to achieve interesting rewards for interesting play. Even new players who have reached level 50 in a job, and I've seen plenty of sprig and flower icons grinding in CM, are not given widely varying ways to achieve these rewards.
For future events, I suggest that SE consider the goals of the event and consequences of the reward structure to be more varied and inclusive to players of all levels of play.
Thanks for listening. Now back to the grind. I'm almost done with getting a single mount for my Alts. - Yep. I have a few Alts. And will have two more after Shadowbringers drops.
Cheers.
