    Consistently High Ping

For the last week or so my Sending and Receiving Ping has been ranging from the mid 300's, with the Receiving jumping up to around 6000 during peak hours making the game unplayable. As a point of reference, I'm generally only sitting at 2/32.

Steps I've taken to resolve this:

    1) Stopped all extraneous programs from running in the background, performing a Clean Boot.
    2) Changed Internet Explorer settings as indicated in a previous post.
    3) Verified FFXIV and all related programs were white-listed in my system's firewall.
    4) Reset my modem/router.
    5) scoured this Forum for any indication of a "fix", or an admission of server issues and have found nothing.

My ping is still high enough to cause audio lag, graphic lag, and I can only imagine this problem will continue into peak hours where I will be forced to not play the game.

In the last remaining week before Shadowbringers drops, I have a to-do list that I am unable to complete. Please, for the love of all that is /ac "Holy" help me fix this problem.

Have you tried using a free VPN to see if the issue is resolved that way?

If it begins to work, you can narrow it down.

I shouldn't have to use a VPN. I never have in the past, and I shouldn't have to use one now to fix a problem that shouldn't be occurring.

It would help to diagnose your issue. I said

This was to test to see if it fixed the issue, if it does, then that could mean that your particular route is having issues, if it doesn't it could mean there are other factors in your PC.

The high ping is in the game only. Everything else I do is perfectly fine, but over the last week or two I've been having issues with excessively high Receiving latency. In town: 600, Dungeons: 1200, Eureka NMs: 41000.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

If you are running into this high of ping, you may be having an issue maintaining a proper connection to the server. This is usually caused by a routing or congestion issue along the way. This can happen even if it hasn't happened before.

The suggestion Zyneste made involves using a VPN. This would use an alternative route to the server. While not guaranteed, if you are directed around an area causing you trouble, it may alleviate the problem. VPNs can also route you differently and make the issue worse. This is why they suggested to try it out.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Telling me to download a VPN is akin to saying "scour the internet for a website that doesn't have suspicious links". Either provide a link to a VPN, or give me another way to fix it. I don't feel like wasting hours looking for something that won't give me malware.

Thank you for the reply Dalmasca.

I apologize for the confusion. I was explaining what the suggestion made by Zyneste was and what it might do. I can only suggest troubleshooting based on your home network. If your issue lies outside of that home network, I'd suggest contacting your ISP and making a report with them.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
