Do you have any idea how much a fatter cat costs in pet food?
A can costs around $1, thus with $5 we could have a slim cat Mount, no more.

I have 10,000 needles,
I'm not a weaver,
and I'm not scared to use them.
The problem is the majority of people of this forum (from what I've read on this thread) agree with SE saying it's optional, other MMO have cash shop that cost more, etc etc... To be fair, I don't buy those because I also believe since we pay a subscription, we should access everything for free, but, I guess i'm too old now for the new generation of gamers who like to throw their money by the windows, back in my time we used to pay a game for it's whole, but whatever. The problem is : people buy it, anyway. If nobody were buying a 30$ mount, they would probably decrease the price, but since people do love micro transaction, well, that's what happens. There is nothing that we can do as long as people are willing to pay that much for some pixels in a game...
Unfortunately that's how games are now, doesn't matter if they are MMOs or any other genre out there. Companies releases games with intent to add further stuff down the line in the form of DLC and/or optional items because they know it can give more longitivity to their title(s).
As for the FFXIV items, well to be fair most of this stuff eventually goes on sale anyway so if players waited they could get them for sometimes near half the cost if they just waited. Ain't any rush getting that Fat Cat or Carpet mounts other than just to look cool, no different to rushing to complete main story quests before everyone else (which will happen with the expac). Could the MogStation stuff be cheaper somewhat, yeah sure, though I'd doubt we would have as many items if no one was purchasing them enough to begin with.
People pay 25$ for menus in a fast food or 15$ for a single t-shirt. Others enjoy buying a Fatter Cat mount or outfits in a MMO cash shop. I don't see the problem to be honest.
Yes, things could be cheaper. But I don't think me paying my subscription entitles me to anything. Why ? Because we have mounts in game, we have outfits in game, we have emotes. I played many games before where, for exemple, you had access to ONE default mount. In the entire game. Oh, you want something new ? Well dang, pay for it. And that's really shitty.
At least in FFXIV, we have access to so many mounts, throught many quests and challenges.
While I wish that there was some way (even if long and annoying) to get everything in game, cash shops are the new gaming reality. I'm just happy it's not pay to win.
First off an expansion costs $40 which is more than a mount cost not half of it. Second, you don't need anything off the MS to succeed in this game. Not even retainers. And no, they aren't an advantage for hoarding gil and having more MB listings. Because 99% of the high tier gil items that drop from places like eureka are, again, cosmetics you don't need. Crafted gear? If your hemorrhaging gil, you likely have the crafters required to MAKE the stuff yourself anyway.
None of it is required. People are just under that illusion because they want it. Need and want are two different ball parks.
You leave Fatter Cat out of this! $24.00 is an absolute steal for something so precious and priceless! It is life! It is love! It is purrfection! Begone you cat hating troll! BEGONE!Can someone please explain to me why added content is so sickeningly expensive? It is completely despicable how much they are charging for say, 1 mount, or 1 emote. The fat cat mount, for example, is $24.00! It is just a single mount and yet it costs more than an expansion for the game.
Can't believe how many people defend Square Enix pricing decisions in this. Just so you know op, I'm totally with you.
Yes, those things are optional but the prices are just exploitative.
So what is the correct price exactly? It's easy to say that something is wrong. Now tell us what's right.
The correct price is free. We pay for the game. We pay a subscription. We pay the expansion. We should have access to everything at least once free in the game, when it's past event items on a cash shop, I don't mind, but when we never had a chance to get them for free, I have troubles with that.
I understand that a game needs income to make patchs, that's why we have a subscription. yes, some of the fees will pay for the server, but it's not 100% of the price of the subscription. If you calculate, we pay 12$ * 12 months, so 144$ for a subscription, and add to that 30$ per year if you buy the digital collector (60$) every 2 years. That makes 174$ US (Since I live in Canada, I will specify that) on the game, for every players. We already pay more than enough for everything.
But, SE is just using FFXIV to make easy money since there is lots of players who are like "this is how the gaming is these days" and accept the situation. On that, we should not be on the side of SE, it's not even Yoshi-p who wants that, it's the greedy direction from SE. There is no way to try to justify that.
It would be ok to just sell past event items, and again, what a right price would be? Something like 5$ since there is so many events in a years, so every new player would be able to buy those and SE could get some extra money.
But, a mount like the fat cat - who is just a larger version of the fat cat minion, so there is not a lot of work there - for 24$... that's just ridiculous, and yet... some people buy it...
