Over-priced Microtransactions!!! PLEASE FIX THIS!!!

I personally view the optional items as a way I can further support the game and developers outside of paying my subscription. I love FFXIV, and I want it to remain successful and continue on throughout the years. The simple fact in this day and age is that if a game isn't providing enough revenue to a company then eventually it's going to die off because while the developers and creators may have passion and love for what they are creating, the overarching company and stock holders only really care about the bottom line.

Since I have pretty limited funds I keep a general rule for myself that each month I allow myself to buy one optional item from the store. That way I feel like I can give a little extra thank you to a game I love so much and get something for myself that makes me happy, it's really a win-win.

I say this in every thread like this and I'll say it again: the outfits and mounts that we get (that are not tied to seasonal events/fanfests) are from the China and/or Korean version of FFXIV, which is run differently than ours. They have to pay for these items over there, we requested them, so now we're getting them, and we have to pay as well.

The only thing I wish they would do differently is allow the seasonal event items to be purchasable ingame once a year when that event comes around again. If you missed the event and don't want to wait a whole year, then buy it off the Mogstation. If not, then just get it when it comes around again.

Our subs are actually paying back debts incurred by 1.0 and are being used to make game like FF15 and the FF7 remake with a few others rumored or fully official like Kingdom Hearts 3 to everything from all of the remasters to as far as "left alive" (Front Mission) et cetera. And, many of the playerbase believe that most of the money from the cash shop actually benefits FF14. For more information: please watch these documentaries

In a way, I do agree that some of the stuff on the store is overpriced, but I don't agree with the OP, just hear me out here before you make up your mind.

I live in a country where the average salary is about 250-300 euros. Keeping that in mind, the average month for house utilities, food, water, electricity and such eat up about 150 euros, for simplicity sake, let's say you have 150 euros left over.

The sub is 13.99, that leaves you with 136 euros. And a single mount can be 20 euros if not more.

I'm sorry but personally, I find that kind of ridiculous. Mind you I did NOT take into account any extra expenditures such as fuel for a car, or clothes, or lingerie, or any of that.

I would love for regional pricing to be a thing, I do want to buy extra things and support the game, however, with the prices on the store as expensive as they are, more often than not, it's just not a possibility. The worst part in all of this, I'm actually above the average salary by quite a bit. And I STILL cannot afford stuff from the store too often.

Compared to other F2P MMOs, FF14's microtransation shop is HELLA cheap. Even taking the monthly sub into account.

Well, yeah, because they are F2P to begin with, FFXIV isn't one of them. The other popular sub-mmo has a cash shop as well, and unfortunately, FFXIV's one isn't any better than WoW's. Just with the number of items available and since how many years they both exist, FFXIV doesn't look that good in comparison.

3) Because the mogstation-money is apparently the only money FFXIV makes that goes directly back into the game - our sub-money is used to fund other SE-projects aswell.

As far as I know, all copyrights still seem to be own by Square Enix, no matter the country (as we can see on both chinese and korean FFXIV websites). But if you have any official statement that confirm the opposite that would be very helpful to me since this keeps coming back and forth.


I'm just wondering... Would it be so difficult to accept that Square Enix is maybe like any other company? That they just want to make money like anyone else? And that today there is probably no other reason for the microtransactions to exist?

I never said anything about them not being in the company? They are most certainly still Square Enix. They just run differently. More independently. They kind of do their own thing, especially in terms of their MogStation releases. While the NA, EU, and JP teams work together to make all the releases they have available for all their audiences in more unified and global way.

Oh, you meant "the players in china/korea have to pay for these items so we have to pay as well". Sorry then, I misunderstood. I thought you were implying, like some others here, that Square Enix itself had to pay the licences back to sell them on our mogstation. Sorry.

Its optional. And it helps support the game. Why do you think they were able to almost double the budget they had for HW with ShB?
