This is me genuinely wondering how long the game has left? FFXIV is the first mmo I’ve ever played, ever. So, this game will always have a special place in my heart. But most great services must eventually come to an end.

I see people complain about so many things on FFXIV....like glam, hairstyles, difficulty of content being “too easy”, customization, graphics, many things. Many things that Square Enix have shown no interest in touching.

Just makes me kind of scared of how long this game has until it’s player base decreases. What do you think? I would say 5 or 6 years.

(I will not respond to negativity)
Since they announced that this expansion will have the last race addition, I have the sneaking suspicion that this will be the last expansion for the game. With all the complaints about server's not being able to take the strain and their spaghetti code holding them back, I think the Devs just want to restart from scratch.

Yep. Back in 2016 there was an article that Yoshida's group started work on a new project. I hope it's Final Fantasy Online 3.

If that's what came across in my post, it wasn't my intent; my general remark is that if you feel something's off with the game and want it fixed, you're more likely to speak up than when you're content with the game based on investment, which is what you're expressing. The effect tends to be that negative posts crop up more than positive ones, and that plus natural human negativity bias (not that we trend negative but that negative topics tend to stand out to us more, thus the issues of outrage clickbait as an example) tends to create the picture that more people hate the game than is actually the case. The poster's perception is that the game is in a bad state because there are a lot of threads that tend to be negative, but that doesn't necessarily indicate that everyone hates the game or that it's failing (though it also doesn't mean that it's doing great either; depends on context). I'm well aware that plenty of people enjoy the game as a whole but want specific parts to be changed - it's just that the general effect due to the way forums work can be the incorrect assumption that everyone hates the game.

Guess I better look at getting a 2080ti....lol! I bet the graphics will look really good. When do you think they will announce and release it? I think if it’s true, it’ll be announced in 2 years, and released in 4. :P

Considering it's a mainline numbered FF title, probably never.
SE has always made all the main FF titles available in some form or another, with XI and XIV not being an exception.
XI may eventually get some offline solo-play mode, as they have been updating the game (to this day even!) to be more and more solo. So it'll eventually be forever available offline.
XIV will likely follow that path but I give it a number of years to come. People fear that ShB is going to be the last expansion but it's just the conclusion to the 1.0 story. And I mean, that was 9 years ago just about lol. If they start up a new grand overarching story, well that's another 5-10 years of content.

Likely this game as a service will be around for several years yet. There's so much to do and Likely even if the expansions stop the game will continue to get small updates as long as a decent amount of people are willing to pay money monthly for access to this world.

Games like RO, FFXI, Everquest and countless japanese MMO's remain available to some degree decades after release. The game only has so many more expansions left, but the game itself promises to be around for quite a while.

If we're talking ability to make obstacles and good storylines, I think it can go a lot further tbh. Like off the top of my head, if the Hydaelyn/Zodiark/Ascian/Garlemald/Allagan storylines all just finished in 5.0 (I don't think all of them will and would put more money on one or two finishing in 6.0 or 7.0 tbh) I could still come up with thirteen, fourteen setups minimum that could be expanded upon to form expansions. The plots are rough granted, but I mean I'm just another fan. If I can do that I'm sure the actual creative team has more irons in the fire and that they're more fleshed out.

Figure they can do this as long as the team and audience are working out.

World of Warcraft is still going. I'd like XIV to last another 10 years minimum.

By the time they drop support for the game (as in no other major expansion) the next final fantasy online would most likely be already running.

I would guess 2 other expansions after ShB before the next final fantasy online shows up and maybe 3 before they drop support. So 5 to 7 years, which would be in line with XI considering the game has been around for almost 10 years already.

I think other MMOs show that they can keep going as long as the devs don't do something the players very much don't like and the playerbase stays active, it'll just keep going on.

Some of the first MMOs ever made are still going on, stuff like Ultima Online, Ragnarok Online and Everquest...
