In regards to a certain thing about Housing.

While there are many things about the housing system I would change if I had the chance. There was one thing I was curious about, but could never find an answer to.

Why is it that people lose all their housing items after their house is demolished (after 30 days)? Like...people don't lose their gil, or their inventory, or even their retainers inventory after this period of time when taking breaks. I just never could understand why housing items are uniquely affected in this way.

I get it with the house demolishing with the current system we have, but to lose all their stuff too? It's kinda like kicking a person when they are down....to coin the phrase.

    Any ideas?

Probably, when you set up items in private estates, the data is saved in a server that is set for a short term storage only, which can be wiped, once triggered by the occurrence of an auto demolition of the private estate. Whereas gil/items in your character as well as retainer inventory is saved in a long term storage server.

After 45 days the house gets automatically demolished, after which you have 35 days to retrieve 80% of the gil and all retrievable housing items from the Resident Caretaker npc. As to why? Not sure why they decided that particular data needed to be wiped. Perhaps because people could just keep buying houses and letting things fall to the npcs over and over?

All we can do is guess.

My guess would be that it has to with multiple characters being able to reclaim items for FC houses in many cases, and they couldn't design the system to handle storage of items from private houses differently than items from FC houses. The data seems to be tied to the plot location instead of a character as a result.

As for why only 35 days to claim the items after demo? If the data is tied to the location, then it needs to be cleared in case the plot gets demo'd again and the game has to insert a new set of items into storage for that plot location. They probably could have chosen 45 days instead of 35 if that's the case but chose to use the lower number instead.

But it's all just a guess as to why. We don't know how things work on the programming side. We just know what rules and restrictions they have in place for housing, and need to abide by them if we want to participate in housing.
