their not dropped at all. you have to make them in the same fashion as you do pearls. via cooking

ive been told that some of the lvl 45-50 quirkin drop them but i have yet to verify. also yello gremlin states that theres a chance goblin bouncers drop them http://ffxiv.yg.com/item/black-pearl?id=10004126

Goblin Bouncers do drop them. low rate tho. like an hr for 6-8 pearls.

I'm also very curious which mobs drop these. I'm not sure you can still synth a +1, so it's possible the only way to get a HQ is from mob drop. My very limited, personal window on this, post patch is 7/7 NQ, but that's not to say the +1 can't be synthed, for sure.

Where is the best concentration of goblin bouncers, btw?

I already told Jadi that the black pearls are now droppable too Vasst.
I am currently looking for the mob that does drop 'em.
And i don't think you can make an HQ black pearl since the only tier of HQ is now +1 and since HQing a blacklip oyster is a black pearl...

Only 1 HQ tier now, so no +1 pearls from cooking anymore. If you want the +1 pearls, hunt the mobs that drop it. I read bouncers do on Yg as mentioned in the thread. Hyppocerfs don't seem to drop it, maybe the same mobs that drop the uncultured pearls (the white pearl) drop black pearls now too. Tried the anemone type mobs same drop as before and no black pearls. Bouncers drop them for sure, got 1 out of 3 mobs.

If you used this item to make gil before, I'm sorry for you and it's time to move on. They added two more recipes that use black pearls, so doesn't seem it's a glitch and there (probably) won't be any coming back to "it's hard make and rare". I hope you sold enough of them when they were still worth a millionish the pearl/ring.
