I often cut by about 10% under 100k. Just because it's faster. Sometimes I'll even buy the cheapest one if it's massively cheaper, that way. They get their gil. And now I can get mine. But idc personally. I'm not a market king or a Crafter or gatherer. So I fatten the economy PLENTY by buying stuff with my own gil.

Because I want to sell things?

You don't sell them being the same price as everyone else.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

I'm usually just being impatient. Once in a while however I'll find something that, according to the actual sale history, is grossly overpriced so I'll cut it down to something I think may actually sell. Or for things like pets from new dungeons etc where I know the price on them is going to crash once more and more people are running the dungeons and the pets are flowing.

I usually have all my prices end in 999, because psychology. And at this point, habit.
... some people decide this means I'm intentionally undercutting them by 1 gil, and occasionally I hear a massive hissy fit.

Because I don't care who's whining about me on the official forums.

Because I could care less about whoever i'm competing with is a person or a bot.

Because I never think about how terrible my local grocery chain is for being cheaper than their competition, why would I suddenly care about it virtually?

The entire point of the market board is to list items to be sold for in-game money. That's not happening if I'm listing it at the bottom of the list. Sometimes I'm fair, sometimes I undercut. Welcome to a marketplace? If you wanted minuscule amounts of guaranteed profit, you'd use the vendor.

Simply put, I'm trying to move the items off my iventory and into the hands of other players... want to flip it for extra profit, be my guest, I already have my money. This is why I usually undercut by 50-90%. Because it creates such a price disparity that the board flippers will just snap it up and get it off my selling list. Either that, or someone gets something they need for a huge bargain. I do it in short bursts though, so I don't disrupt the overall market.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

    To sell something.
    To tick someone off*.
    To corner a market.

*Buddy of mine had an argument in his FC about a week ago about undercutting. Guy was complaining about some item worth about 300k. Said he was being undercut by half. I told my buddy to list the item for 75k just to tick him off. He did and the guy ended up getting ticked enough to quit the FC over it.

Seriously people, you all get way too worked up over this sort of thing. Its an entry in a database and a set of pixels. Its not worth the effort to get upset about. But if you are going to do that, than some of us ARE going to have fun at your expense. If you want to give us craps and giggles. Then by all means get upset. We'll continue to have our fun.

I have only 40 MB slots, and usually overflowing bags, so I want the stuff I'm selling to move fast. If I have things that have been up for more than a few days, I usually cut the prices by half.
