What is your ACTUAL reasoning for undercutting?

I do undercut, I'd rather not have to undercut, but it's part of the game. When I'm making end game gear for gil, I constantly crank them out. So I need them to move, to make them move I need to undercut or else I just start sitting on gear because the ones listed aren't moving. Gathering, crafting, and checking retainers is honestly so much fun for me, to see the gil roll in as I'm doing these three things. I love it.

Undercutting helps to prevent interference between gear teeth when you have a small number of teeth on a gear.

I bring prices down when I am desperate for cash ASAP. XD I'm not a crafter proper so I'm basically perma-broke.

I don't thoughtlessly post anything for sale. I will undercut vendor items if the bots are getting super greedy. I always check the sale history and go for a median of the sale prices, but also try to keep the value of whatever I’m selling.

So if darksteel ore is selling between 750 and 1k per, I’ll sell mine for about 850-900 regardless of the current posted ores. Someone is going to come along and buy a bunch eventually and my price isn’t unreasonable.

I low prices because if I don't sell in a week, my prices are too high.
And if the price drop down what I feel a reasonable amount, I will directly sell to NPC rather than making gifts to the market.

Undercutting by a smallish amount or price matching is normal behaviour. I often see some strange people crashing the price of an item for no good reason which leave me scratching my head. Stuff for sale for 50k, some dingbat comes along and decides on 20k, people start piling under that, then another dingbat comes along and it's 5k... people start piling on under that. When I see dumb crap, I just pull the item. I can wait.


The other thing that grinds my wheels is people putting stuff on the MB for the same, or less they would get if they just vendored it. why on earth put someonething on the MB for 1 gil? sheesh. Why even bother with the MB if you can get the same price immediately?

You see this a lot with materia. I just simply buy it all up and either relist it or sell it to my local vendor in my home.
