What is your ACTUAL reasoning for undercutting?

I try not to undercut in general... But when I do, it's almost always because I want my stuff to sell faster, haha! I never really thought about whether or not it bugs other people selling the same items until I started coming to FFXIV related forums.

I don't try to undercut if I can, but sometimes I need a quick buck, or just want to get rid of the things I have.
And sometimes I don't agree with the prices being asked for certain items...

I only undercut if the price seems outrageous to me. I'm not a big market person and I don't do it often or anything, but when (for example) I check the board to find white coral going for 2k gil a PIECE, , that's overkill. It's true it's used in some mid-level recipes, but its also used by beginners who don't have a lot of money. I'll put it up for a more reasonable but still profitable price. I don't ever have enough to affect the market or anything, so one or two people will get fair deals and then the price will return to what other gatherers demand. I'm still low level so I can't really comment on high level prices, hence my example.

But I don't ever try to just make people mad or whatever, that just seems childish to me. And I'm not really smart enough to 'play the market' or whatever.

I'm honestly content to just price match people, but one gil undercuts trigger me enough to make me want to lower the price by 10-50K if that happens.

To sell things quicker.

Depending on the price, I'll always make it a round number. So if someone sells for 18393gil, I'll opt for 18000.

Anything less than 10k, I just desynthesis, not worth the hassle of trying to sell when you can get something back to recycle into pricier items.

To clear my inventory. I already have over 30 million gil with nothing I really want to spend it on, so I'm not hugely active on the market, but if I can get more than vendor price, why not?

Everyone undercuts. But can anyone answer this for me? : Are you undercutting out of spite of “elitist” crafters....or do you do it to genuinely bring the price down so everyone can afford it?

By everyone’s definition, I’m a “elitist” crafter but I also enjoy bringing down prices for people to enjoy. What about you?

When I was selling I would always undercut by 5 gil. I worked to maintain low price and if someone undercut the going prices significantly I would simply buy the content and re-list it. I don't need the gil anymore so I do other things with my time. Selling can be a frustrating thing with those who appear to have failed Econ 005 but hey that's part of the market.
