Question About Housing

I haven't been following Shadowbringers news very well, so bear that in mind while I ask this question:

Does anyone know if they said anything about adding new housing areas with this expansion? Not additional wards to the existing areas, but completely new areas? I'm getting close to having enough for a small plot, and I'm weighing my options (or lack thereof).

There have been teasers that Ishgard will be a new housing district, but will only be enabled after certain amount of contributions from disciple of hand and land has been met, ala doman enclave style.

No, there was never a mention of housing district reguarding the reconstruction of Ishgard. Players assumed it would be about housing and everyone now believes it will be.

There is almost no information as to what the reconstruction of Ishgard is going to be about, but housing was never mentioned once. Please do not spread information like that, people will believe it and everything will blow up when it will be revealed that it was completely something else.
I too wish there would be more housing, but this was never mentioned nor confirmed anywhere.

It dosen't confirm anything. Meoni says it was 'hinted', but this video goes back almost a year and nothing as been mentioned as of today about this.

I too hope there will be more housing, all I am saying is to not spread false information that wasn't confirmed by the devs. It's just like the male viera, female hrothgar thing ; everyone will firmly believe it will be housing, even thought it was never confirmed, and if it isn't, everything will explode.
If it does because housing, then good Just don't say it as a confirmed thing for now.

It would have been a really random remark if it wasn't intended as a hint at housing plans. The lack of comment since then doesn't bother me since I wouldn't expect any substantial upgrades to the current housing system to occur until 5.1 at the earliest. There are still several things about the expansion they've only recently started to mention with more to get unveiled during the E3 live letter.

I'm hoping it doesn't mean a new housing district, though. The ward system has too many drawbacks, with one of the primary ones being that it can't be expanded on a per world basis as demand increases. I'm hoping for an improved instanced housing system that will have room for everyone regardless of what world they play on.

SE never said anything about male Viera, though.

The comment at the NA FanFest opening address goes out of the way to acknowledge they know that players have been wanting to live in Ishgard. If they didn't want players to get the idea that housing might be coming, there would have been no reason to mention or that the Reconstruction would have to happen first. They could have left any reference to housing out completely.
