While I can understand your point of view. I think it's a matter of associating names with behavior. It shouldn't matter what the names are or if you've heard of them or if they're made up once you see what they do.I was worried someone would say that... Nothing in my life lead me to that word tho. Nothing. I was in the army for 8 years. did some college etc etc. And none of that... none used that word. Again I never heard of that word until Omega. Again... left right up and down is prefectly normal and everyone uses those. Why use something so out of left field when you can use something EVERYONE knows?
My first point was when I first got into that fight I got tripped up along with other people - it IS a meme- cause most people never heard of it before. If it had been left right etc etc that confusion would've never happened. That's my only point. Why have that there at all? That's all I'm saying. Yes after you do it a million times it's blargh but that first time tho. There's no reason to not use the common words like left.
Laughs and memes came out of it, so I'd say it's a win.My first point was when I first got into that fight I got tripped up along with other people - it IS a meme- cause most people never heard of it before. Because the localization team tries to replicate the Japanese usage of naval term (although they've used port before so I don't know why they use larboard now).My first point was when I first got into that fight I got tripped up along with other people - it IS a meme- cause most people never heard of it before. I don't have to admit that at all. There's any number of reasons someone might mess something up. I know I do, and better players than me (of which there are many) manage to do it as well. My point is, if you make the game harder you're going to have to put up with more failure, not less, as some seem to believe. If everyone clamouring for more difficulty is planning to become more patient then fine, have at it. I don't want to see anyone going on any more orange text tirades if this comes to pass or rage quitting after a wipe or two. People who want the game to be harder need to be willing to reap all that they sow, good and bad.
Honestly they probably wanted to A.) Do something a little different since there had been quite a few different "Left side/Right side" attacks by this point, and B.) Really wanted to show how old Omega was that it was still using such old terms. Urianger would approve.
Yeah, agreed. Personally, I don't mind that FF XIV is a pretty casual MMO in regards to overall difficulty. Shadowbringers isn't really going to change that. I wouldn't even say the game will get easier because of it. The game isn't hard to begin with, period. After playing other MMOs much more intense and grindy than this over the years I feel like this is a good place for me to be. By MMO standards I'd probably be considered "old". Thankfully Extreme, Savage and Ultimate exist to cater to those seeking a bit more of a challenge. I dabble in Extremes mostly, though that's usually 2-3 maybe more per expansion since ARR. But that's more than enough challenge for me. I'm content to play my job well, get some fancy stuff and enjoy the ride.I don't have to admit that at all. The problem with this is there ain't no one that knows what the hell these terms mean as precisely 0.001% of players have ever used nautical terms for their intended purpose (or ever really), and even less an outdated term like larboard that isn't in use anymore for a fairly obvious reason if you say them out loud to yourself then imagine a loud and chaotic situation where mishearing one letter could mean a dead crew.Left and right aren't specific enough, because they either change with your orientation, or they need additional modifiers to identify who's right or left you're referring to. When you use Port and Starboard, it's independent of your orientation at any given time, so it's always the same for everyone in the party.

The game too easy? By what standards, lol?
I find normal pve modes quite challenging to the casual player to be honest, given the sheer number of mechanics that happens in the fights.
Every job has a layer of complexity that makes it difficult to master. It's not easy to play any job to its full potential. Even RDM.
The MSQ solo-instanced fights sometimes can prove to be challenging if all you expect is to mash a button and win.
There are deep dungeons in this game that are hard to complete the "past-average levels" let alone you trying to solo.
24-man raid don't have different difficulties, but they are usually challenging because you depend on a lot of people doing stuff right. Granted, that is not a pve-inherited hardship, but that's what you have to work with if you want to clear it.
And lastly, like other players mentioned, you can always go the Exteme / Savage / Ultimate modes if you want something to chew on.
Define what you would call "educated" exactly? Plenty of educated people can go through life and just not know certain terms, so let's not be bringing some kind of superiority in to the thread here.
There is that boss in the Temple of the Fist that users Fore/Alt and Port/Star terms, if they kept the latter for Omega perhaps players would have picked up the fight a little easier rather than just throwing Larboard out of nowhere. I suppose it starting with L means people could reference it easier to Left (side), though unless SE intends to use that extact term again then players may forget it once more.
