I came from a game that pretty much had nothing but raids to look forward to at endgame. Since then, I've come to view FFXIV's apparent, uh, casual-ness as a necessity for maintaining growth in the community. My previous game stagnated hard, because when you make a raid-oriented game, it turns out that eventually growth just stops because the established raid community acts as their own entry barrier. Whether it be cliques, expectations, or even market manipulation. A game centered towards raids more or less means you can't really get anything worthwhile done if you don't play in the same peak hours as the majority of the raiding community either.

SEE!! THIS is what I was trying to tell OP before someone actually went and looked. THIS RIGHT HERE! THIS is why you shouldn't make statements like that cause people WILL look at your records OP. But what's done is done. No offense to the above poster btw... but I was only trying to warn OP. Oh well.

The problem is not about difficulty. It's about enjoyment. It's useless if it's difficult and not fun. Eureka is proof of this.
What I can't bear is simplicity. Complexity guarantees perpetuity of content, either fun or boring. Simple content don't last long, even if it's fun, it's useless in the short term.

With that said, I feel that the dev team is erasing complex parts of this game, without filling the complexity lack with something more complete. Let's take for example the Materia system... It's slowly fading. They remove, but they don't improve. Same with Leves and alot more systems that could bring more to the game, but they are slowly removing from the game. Same for Crowd control skills, why remove them? Why don't they start producing content that forces the use of these skills? It's easier to remove and to stay in the same formula I guess. Removing skills will just turn the leveling even more boring...

The challenge is the community itself most of the time. Can you dodge all the PF traps that are getting more and more clever at disguising themselves? Tune in to Shadowbringers for an exiting game of Party Finder EX/Savage

In XI, every single level felt like an adventure. It was always a challenge and that made it, almost always, fun because that's what people enjoy. I get some people might not want to have to deal with such challeneges on a daily basis, but, IMO, the sense of fullfilment is dminished because of the scarcity of such challenge. Outside of modern MMOs there is no game / genre that makes / forces its players to get to the last 10% of the game to actually enjoy its challenge.

I'm telling you every single game does this. Every game starts easy and progressively gets harder unless your claiming World 1 of Mario bros 3 is as easy as World 7 with only World 8 providing a challenge.

Well, ARR never aimed to be hardcore or anything like. There is an interview to Yoshida and he claims that the game was designed with people having a life outside it (https://youtu.be/ONT6fxiu9cw?t=789).

Like it or not current FF14 was designed to be a casual friendly game with some hard, and fun, content here and there. Just happens to not be the main focus of the game.

I too have played the "hard way", been playing ffxi since 2005, and still do today.

I like ffxiv just the way it is. It has flaws, all games do but I wouldnt still be here if I didnt like it!

Real life stresses are truly my challenge, games on the other hand, are my fun, my r&r, nothing to prove here as I have already done so irl where it counts imo.

I understand if others do not share my stance on things, its cool, everyone do what you gotta do to be happy.

Every mob must be dark souls caliber. You lose your gear when you die. And when you die you lose a full level and the xp required to level goes up by 50%

There I think I made it hardcore enough.
