Need Advice for wife...

My wife is going to try to play a MMO with me for the first time. I am really new to this game and don't know a whole lot myself. She wants to play something that is simple to learn at first.

I am playing a BLM currently. It doesn't seem hard but I am only level 31. I am not sure what to advise her to play try. I want her to enjoy it and get involved so that she sticks it out and doesn't quit out of frustration.

I'd recommend archer. Easy class to progress through, low pressure, doesn't have to get hands dirty by being in close range and you start in Gridania which is the easiest (and nicest) city to get around as a new player in my opinion.

To a degree this is a "hard" answer and that's because when shadowbringers drops all the jobs are going to have to "re learn" to some degree. So some jobs might get easier and and others might be more complicated.

That being said if this is her first MMO, suggest playing any of the DPS jobs to start. Granted when you get to level ten (and do your level ten class quest) she can than change it up if she's not happy (or if she has any interest in being a ninja start as an arcanist that way she can already be in limsa and won't have to wait to be an envoy to unlock it).

Also if she gets to fifty she can always unlock red mage, it's a simplified job to play that is a lot of fun.

For a newcomer, being the tank is usually not so much fun as you need to lead your group through dungeons you know nothing about. Usually a DPS is a very good choice for learning the basics and the dungeons, as you pretty much only need to follow along wherever your tank and healer runs.

I would recommend to chose the (DPS-)class she likes best as every class starts out pretty simple up until level 50 anyway. And at this point if it evolves into something she don't like she can switch to whatever anytime she wants without a problem.

I would second Archer/Bard. One of the easier ones when first starting out. Tanking can be daunting for someone new to MMOS i know it was for me when i started 5 or 6 yrs ago
Or there is also the option for scholar since you level both that and summoner at the same time so she would have both a healer and a dps to work off of. Though summoner may seem more complex later on.

I'd agree that DPS is the easiest role to start with. But I'd recommend she unlocks and tries out several jobs early on, so she can decide for herself which she wants to advance further first. That means staying in low level content a while to experiment with them, but ultimately she'll be a better judge of what she enjoys than we are, so the time can be worth it.

Archer, arcanist, gladiator, or even conjurer are fairly simple classes. What kind of rolls does she like the most or like to play as in non mmos? Many of the starting classes start out simple and turn complex later on the higher they get. One of the main things to keep in mind is to just try you best and read your tool tips. Also don't forget to ask questions or let people know you're new or that she's new. Most people in the game are nice and helpful and thankfully she will be starting near the start of an expansion which means she won't have to relearn things too much and will be able to learn the class with how it'll be with the changes Shadowbringers will be making.
