    Leathercraft Levelling HQ mats

I have leveled a half dozen professions to 70 typically using HQ items provided by my miner or botanist. With Leaf Turn and Unearth is a easy to acquire HQ mats. I have found, at some lover levels, making 4 HQ items is more exp than a levee quest! And generally I turn in HQ items for levees to get twice the exp.

The thing stopping me from leveling leathercraft is the ability to get HQ mats. I assume getting leathercrafts mats means killing some animal on the hoof and in my experience HQ drops are pretty rare. Not at all like getting 12 HQ items from a single node. Am I off base here or is there some way to get HQ mats for leathercraft similar to the ease of getting them with a miner or botanist?

Send your retainer out that is a battle job on ventures over and over to build up huge supplies of hq mats. Make sure their gear is up to date so that it's a higher chance of getting an hq.

The only times you need HQ mats for leveling, is if you are crafting for a GC or levequest turnin - where HQ turnins provide double the XP.
The XP you get from just crafting items is based on how much you improve the Quality of the item. It does not depend on if the final result turned out HQ or not.

Mistake is 100% right. Using all HQ mats takes away a lot of the exp you get for actually crafting the item(though if youre turning it in then the reward doubling should make up for that). With that said, high quality skins and such arent really all that hard to get for most of your leveling up process. Lets say you were making aldgoat leather products to turn in. Part of that process would be curing aldgoat skins(with alumen you can mine up) into aldgoat leather. You are right that most aldgoats dont drop high quality skins when killed. But the sheer volume of people killing them leads to the prices for many of these skins(or sinews, or whatever other drop you might need) being incredibly low on the market board. And another thing you can take advantage of is cross-class skills. If you have most of the classes leveled up already then you have some powerful tools you can assign to the LTW kit to help you out. And finally, if struggling you can always use your other skills(weaver, blacksmith, goldsmith) to make sure you have the best equipment available while working on LTW.

Its been a long time since I was leveling a crafting class. But if I remember correctly, going from 0 Quality to max Quality while crafting gave a 300% bonus to the experience earned.

Using HQ materials prevents you from obtaining that 300%. However, I forget what it reduces that to. 240% maybe?

Now, that 300% is on its own, and other things (food, manuals, rested) will allow you to increase that further.

You need better rotations and gear, it's very possible to 0-100 everything in ARR, with minimal RNG after level 30. You don't need to only focus on leves either. Ixal, GC turn-ins, and crafting log reward significant experience, and you can do your GC turn-in after you gain a level to reduce the progress penalty.

And that is why you get less xp from using HQ mats. If going for xp you should always start with the lowest quality you can successfully craft.

Given the general upbeat responses to my post I went ahead and got my Leathercrafter to 60 now. Can't say it took any longer but it definitely was way more expensive and getting the mats was way harder than any other profession. For example, non-HQ Archaeornis skins have a poor drop rate and I often killed twenty without getting a single HQ skin! Versus 20 nodes on my miner or botanist where I easily get 250 HQ mats. So, high quality skins are hard to get comparatively or expensive (e.g. 1k to 5k). The difference in obtaining HQ mats for my carpenter or blacksmith or alchemist and the leather crafter are night and day. Feels completely imbalanced between the professions. Given how much more HQ gear and tools sell for on the MB there is no way I would choose to make gil with a Leathercrafter versus these other professions.

Kenyon, you are LOSING EXP by using all HQ materials.

You get up to 300% bonus exp if you bring the Quality bar from 0 to full.

If there is any starting Quality, that is Quality you cannot add during the craft, and thus you lose out on the exp from that Quality.

Learn to 100% HQ from all NQ mats. You’ll get more exp in the craft. And you won’t care about HQ materials anymore.

Eh, personally, never too fussed with exp from crafting. Majority is gonna come from turn ins of one variety or another anyway. At least for what I do. I'm sure folks that craft every day and always need something for something, maybe they get something out of it. But also, probably least likely to need it.
