A collaboration between Secret of Mana and FFXIV is something I've been hoping for, for a long time.
The remake of Seiken Densetsu 2 definitely needs some work to fix.
- Flying / Turning with Flammie feels sluggish compared to the SNES. Banking is broken?
- Cannon travel doesn't show us flying through the air
- I can't change the styles of the text boxes
- I miss the sprite's head moving up and down when it laughs
- No online multiplayer
- User Interface breaks if you play at an aspect ratio other than 16:9
- World is empty/black if you play at an aspect ratio other than 16:9
- It would be better to show black bars and lock the the UI than to show it broken at other aspect ratios
- Ring menus no longer center around the characters, instead they are fixed to the center of the screen.
- Current AI for computer controlled allies feels like it needs more options. I wouldn't mind seeing the grid from the SNES come back in some way
- Some menu back grounds are flat black instead of being a sea of endless trees
I could go on, but this isn't the place for it. Granted, Secret of Mana doesn't have a forum to leave feedback on. I'll spare you the rest of that rant.
The point is, I was excited when I heard about the remake, and hope they will go back to fix it. But I also got to thinking that would be a great collaboration opportunity.
For FFXIV, the first thing that comes to mind is that I'd love to see a 3 person white dragon mount that moves/banks like Flammie in the SNES. There is at least 4 (2 original, 2 remake) music themes that could go with it, not counting any spin Sokken might put on it.
What flying Flammie looks like:

Maybe an alternate mount that looks more like the Mana Beast? Nah, that is more like a boss. There is also opportunity for hair styles, weapon glamours (each mana weapon has 8 to 9-ish versions to choose from), and maybe infamous tiger themed gear. You could probably find a housing item or two. Maybe fireworks imitating magic effects from the game. An emote similar to the sprite's exaggerated laugh! There is a lot to choose from.
For Secret of Mana Remake, there is the possibility of DLC for new outfits that currently are only occupied by Moogle and Tiger gear.
The announcement for the Secret of Mana Collection and the Trials of Mana Remake (Seiken Densetsu 3) at E3 2019 once more got my hopes up for a collaboration of this nature. But that isn't all!
- FINAL FANTASY XIV: SHADOWBRINGERS - Dungeon Crawl (2m 29s) - We are treated to a sea of trees and familiar flying fowl.
- Secret of Mana SNES title screen
- Secret of Mana Remake title screen
Maybe it is already happening? I can only hope! Am I alone in wishing for this sort of collaboration?
