    Mentor Roulette

I just wanted to post something that I found funny today while running my mentor roulette.

I accidentally queued as a DPS (normally I do it as a tank) and got in instantly inside an in progress. It happened to be Titan Extreme.

Now in order for this to happen it means people queued up for it legitimately in a non pre made (which is something I don't understand, I think it makes more sense even if you do it legitemetely its better off doing a pre made for so many reasons). I have cleared this fight several times, only two times "legit" but I actually learned the mechanics the non legit way (I watched videos but had no interest during realm reborn, didn't start doing the ARR primals til mid Heavensward) which actually helped me (I only learned levi by actually doing it, the video didnt help even though it was explained accurately enough, because seeing the spouts made more sense to my brain while doing it versus the video).

With that in mind I was trying to give advice (one tank was kind of under geared, he had gear sufficient to get in but he wasn't super geared) and even when I was just watching the group hand out advice, the group as a whole wasn't always synergizing.
I also found it frustrating because I basically got called a patsy for doing mentor roulette in the first place.

I stayed the entire time, the group did not clear it and I even got one person upset because I said that I didnt think we'd make it given that we weren't progressing... they tried to inform me that we were getting better the entire time (this was when the furthest we got was when the adds spawned, right before the bomb phase and we never had all eight people alive at this point, as in people fell off the map).

I stayed for the entire run and just laughed it off because I figured what else could I do... although at the end of the day I do think it was a wasted forty something minutes :P

Welcome to Mentor Roulette! Extreme primals will come up quite often (usually ARR ones) as new players think it's easier to queue up through the Duty Finder as opposed to the Party Finder, either because they don't know the latter exists or purposely want to run it synced. I feel the mentality of a number of these players is they did Hard mode and they are not expecting Extreme to be that much more difficult, and in actual fact depending how many new players you have, you could spend almost the entire allotted time in duty before something happens (a clear or vote abandon). Unfortunately some players are just not ready for Extreme content and despite offering advice/tips on how to get through it, they can continuously fail what is expected of them to progress the fight. Sometimes it can be they are not quick enough to react to mechanics or they don't quite know their job well enough, resulting in it becoming frustrating for players who are doing things correctly only to get held back by those learning too slowly (even with echo!).

Part of mentoring is explaining, "On NA servers it's customary to use /partyfinder for extreme primals even if you want to do them syncked." Many of the people who queue up for EX primals fall into three categories:

    A) They don't know /partyfinder exists.
    B) They think /partyfinder is only for unsyncked runs.
    C) They don't care, you don't pay their sub.

You can't do anything about (C), but simply saying what I quoted above will bring the party finder to the attention of (A) and (B) people. If they ask why, something like, "Extreme primals have some strictly scripted mechanics that need to be dealt with in a coordinated way. You won't find the coordination necessary by using duty finder." This is especially and most visibly true for Ramuh EX and GKMMXII EX; if the roulette is one of these, add "Especially this one; it requires the most coordination out of any of the ARR primals besides [the opposite one]. Queuing up without a party that knows what to expect and how to handle it is asking for a bad time."

Jup, C) also usually call you toxic for explaining the partyfinder.
