Rework the market system to allow purchase offer listings and eliminate undercutting

I would like to see the market system reworked in such a way that players are able to put up purchase offers like sell offers and that items are not listed plainly and explicitly as they are now.

If anyone here has played Old School Runescape and used the Grand Exchange you can see exactly what I am talking about. You can put up sell or buy offers for items and each item has an average market value. However you cannot see all the listings and their exact amounts, because of this, you don't have people undercutting each other by exactly 1 or 2 gil. Players are able to put up buy offers for a certain price, given the average market value of the item you can choose to go up or down 5% as many times as you want or still set the exact price that you are looking to purchase an item for. As a buyer, you automatically receive a purchase that is at or below your offer and are refunded the remainder.

Being able to put up buy offers makes it so that whenever someone puts up a sell offer that meets someone's buy offer, the item often sells instantly as you do not have to wait for someone to decide to come to the market and look for what you are selling as there would likely already many people that have buy offers set up.

As for not showing sell offers explicitly as they are now, this would eliminate scummy undercutting practices, as im sure many of you know if you are engaged in the market, as the only option for undercutting would be to go below a market average amount.

This is complicated and unnecessary. System is fine as it is, if you have a problem with someone undercutting you, just return the favor or wait till their item sells.

Just forewarning you now, I've recommended that FFXIV could implement things from Runescape in the past and the typical unhelpful response is "FFXIV is not Runescape".

and that's the correct response, because it's not.

Why are you making multiple threads about undercutting?

Don't worry, if the Grand Exchange is implemented into FFXIV, the game will still be FFXIV. But you are free to remind everyone that FFXIV is FFXIV, just in case anyone has forgotten.

Without the comparison to other games, I have also suggested that our retainers be able to put up buy orders on the Board for us. Basically, set the retainer up to buy, say, 39 Koppranickel Ores at whatever price apiece. And people looking at the Board to see what people are wanting to buy can sell, through the Board, to the retainer, as a reverse of buying from the retainer through the Board.

Regardless of what other games (Sorry TC, but that’s not the only instance of a game that allows buying as well as selling that way) do, it is a logical progression for the Board to be able to do both, instead of just one.

They had a system like this in FF XI, and the reaction was mixed. I haven't played FF XI in years, so what I am about to say may not be 100% correct. But to the best of my recollection players would basically set a minimum price that they'll take for the item they were selling, and only the seller knew what it was. Other players would then come and bid on that item. If the bid was below the lowest price set by a seller, the buyer would get a message telling them that the purchase was unsuccessful. If the bid was above the lowest price listed, the item would sell for whatever the buyer's bid was, even it was above the lowest seller's asking price. If two people listed an item for the same price, the person who put it up first would get the sell.

As I said earlier, the reaction was mixed. If that system isn't in FF XIV I'd assume it's because the feedback from FF XI wasn't good. I remember my biggest gripe as a crafter in FF XI was that market was always flooded with items because players could resell gear when they could equip higher level gear. I was happy to see in this game that you couldn't sell used gear. So it seems that they used feedback from FF XI in making the MB in FF XIV.
