PSN outage issues

So PSN is down, which means the game will not launch because it wants to check for launcher update that it cannot do. Can we have a way to bypass this check so we can still login and play? I know the game will work if PSN is down as it runs on it's own servers. It's annoying to not be able to log in when PSN is down.

Normally I am ok with this but the limited time moogle event going on, and I am missing out on chances for tomestones. Also missing out on gold saucer event time as well.

If it lasts a while they might, they've done stuff like this before (which is nice). Like if it's just a short period of time probably not but if it lasts for a while and some people ask for it then it sounds possible. Although the moogle one would be a bit interesting since it lasts until Shadowbringer's launch, which would mean any extension would be extending it into the expansion. Make it rain does expire earlier though so that one is probably easier to extend just because they can without any weird collision and possible questions like "Are you updating the event to include shadowbringer dungeons? I don't have time to do ARR with this new content out".

In terms of separating FFXIV from PSN I doubt they could due to contracts, but I'm just guessing from having heard other big deals semi-similar (aka I'm guessing and have no qualification to speak authoritatively on it, just a guess yeeet lol).

It is condition of play on PS4 that the PSN be up for online play. True you are not paying for PSN and a sub but that is the special agreement they reached for this game exclusively.

it’s only required for the update check, psn is not required to play. if psn goes down while you’re logged in you can stay logged in.

And to login, so in a sense I think you could say it is required to play - it's just not required to maintain lol.

You know who else has outages? PC players. Just playing on PC doesn't stop natural causes or service issues overall.

He is stating (in a very roundabout way) that the PS4 has an extra point of failure that the PC version does not (Steam is not included).
Sometimes you need to read between the lines, because what he's saying isn't false.
