Feeling punished for having alts...

I'm fine with the game not giving advantages to your secondary characters, like say WoW heirlooms, but I do wish they would make one change.

Treat your alts on the same server as friends at least. So you can easily make your alts tenants in your private house, or mail your alts things without using a company chest or market board or a second player. This is a pretty simple thing I really see no reason for them not to add.

Don't want my alts to level faster or be able to skip quests to unlock things or have a shared bank? Fine, but at least let me treat my alts as if they were on my friend list. Or just let us outright add our alts to our friend lists, that would solve both of my complaints.

After finally getting almost everything to max level this expansion, including crafters and gatherers, and with the changes to desynth in 5.1....Its honestly surprising how much space you actually have, in the armoury chest anyway.

My whole left side, and all right side with expection to rings and weapons have almost half of the spaces still free now. The amount of retainers you can have is account wide, too.

So in terms of how much space is needed for litterally every job currently in the game? there is more than enough - Just do some inventory cleaning, its not hard and can be kinda fun. That being said, i do think retainer inventorys need to be expanded or we need three retainers by default, because for crafters and gatherers 2 is simply not enough without playing a complicated game of crafting matts jenga.

Here is what i'd do.

Allow you to send mogmail to those not on your friendslist, but have a subscription be required. This would allow you to transfer things between alts, and force RMT bots to have to buy the game and run themselves dry instead of just using the free trial, because RMT is the main reason you can only send mail to people on your friendslist, as far as im aware.

Increase the glamour dresser space - Despite having an increase not 6 months ago, its still, for me atleast and many others i imagine one of the many things that is always titoring on the edge of being full.

Increase retainer inventory space, or increase the ammount of default retainers. For obvious reasons.

Maybe because the game was designed with the "you can do everything with your character" idea in mind ?
It's not one of those games where you need alts to play different classes so, if you're doing an alt it's not a necessity but a personal decicion, thus the game, wich was not created with that function in mind, should not be easier for your alts.
I mean, we even have a sub for 1 character only....

The entry-level sub is one character per world, eight total. There is no level where you're unable to create alts at all, even on the free trial.

But yes, I do think they were focused on the "one character can do everything" aspect and didn't consider the possibility that people might not want it that way. It might be quite deep in the coding that they can't share elements of the character into an account-wide progression tracker.

Tbh The only thing I would say they need to adjust for same world alts is:

1. Access to personal housing as this will alleviate a small portion of housing stress especially as you can only buy one p.house per world per account.

2. Alts can be added as friends. I just want to be able to trade things to my alts. I have two on lich both for rp purposes. I would like to be able to send them glam items from my main directly and be able to send back gil from my alts to my main. At the moment I am working to get the lean emote for my alt on my main as I'm never gonna level crafters on him. Would be nice not to have to bug a 3rd party to play middleman.

Other then those two things alts don't need anything special. no exp boosts or skip quests. We are not punished for alts there is just some QOL things square could add that would be nice.

adding due to shared inventory suggestion. I rather see a system like this (like the company chest) added to married couples over alts. The marriage system is lacking on things. bar the teleport directly to partner once per person every half an hour there is not much to make you feel married. I'd love like a 2 slot chest shared between the two with maybe a gill coffer so if your working towards things you can place it there. yeah I know mog mail exists but i just love the idea. especially seeing mine is working towards saving for an ishgard mansion if we get housing.

There are not many mmos that allow this unique feature of being able to do everything one one character (leveling, achievements, etc). It’s what personally got me to chose ffxi over wow back in the day. I personally “felt punished” for needing alts with other mmos I tried like swtor and even dcuo. Everything mmo has a down side, but I think there are much more benefits to this game allowing all jobs on one character than being required to have 12+ characters.

Just allow people to mail items to their alts. I get that some people don't want to level other alts. But there is literally no reason you shouldn't be able to share items within your own account. If someone chooses to only have 1 character thats fine. But there is literally a subscription tier for having multiple characters per world. We are paying to be able to do that, and also being punished for doing so.

I really would like someone to ask Yoshida for more clarification on the reasons why we can't properly friend alts. RMT is the first thing to come to mind, but like several of you have said, it wouldn't likely affect RMT methods in the slightest.

This will be a topic to discuss further through Live Letter questions or further. Otherwise, is there a Community Manager reading this who could forward these concerns and relay the answer to us?

Good point. Stopped playing in 2016, came back recently and started a new character for:
a) The storyline which was a vague memory.
b) Relearn my skills.

Now I'd need a third party to rescue the loots and whatnot from my old character instead of just mailing myself. Are extra retainer sales that big an income for SE?
