Suspended for Otter Nonsense

Honestly, the otters were annoying. Quite often the feeling behind the spam was:



While the OF is definitely no stranger to troll threads, I noticed this happening even in normal discussions. Just because you don't agree with someone's point of view, it doesn't necessarily make it any less valid, and also doesn't mean that you are now OK to try and brush off their viewpoint with an otter picture. If you can't formulate a proper response, perhaps you should have tapped out of the conversation long ago.


Before I get fingers pointed my way, no, I have not reported anyone on the forums. :3

I find it very amusing that they would ban posters over otters, but have the person looking to stir the crap pot by trying to antagonize and name/shame former FC-mates get off free. Rules seem very arbitrary here and I say that respectfully, lest they ban me for a third and final time like a great number of people on r/ffxiv.

The thread was derailed into people just posting otter pics. If you joined in you were kind of asking for it.

I was expecting that. But I wasn't gonna let my chance of being part of #Ottergate slip by!! We turned a cancerous thread into something otterly amazing!

It's complex so in regards of the previous thread maybe the best solution is to take it out of the forums and solve it in real life because the way you should be using the forums would be to approach a more game related topics, instead of personal vendettas. Blergghh
The moderators and SE have nothing to do with anyone "Hero jokes" about the topic previously mentioned by Soul.

So quit trying to involve SE and forums community managers into your personal vendettas grow courage and solve it irl.

Yes I agree, the OP of that thread should have spoken to his former FC mates instead of trying to bait them with a post on the forums.

Don't know it is a personal matter perhaps the player tried to talk about the subject before and didn't work out the way the player expected can't make such assumption.
The only thing I know so far is that at some point the player felt the need to express discontent and for the 1st answers from the OP there were inside the thread we could see it was something upsetting we shouldn't had pushed the thread so far, it was our fault too.

Ain't saying the OP of that thread was in the right, but derailing the topic, and then sending a wave of otter pictures isn't exactly a good thing to do either.

A simple intervention post on the mods' end, or, in the name of Hydaelyn, locking the thread op himself derailed, would have been a better choice than waiting and tossing bans out to nearly everyone involved.

Remember the post. He did not try to talk anything out; he saw the joke, left fc, changed data center, and then posted on the of to bait his static.

Forum threads are fickle beasts. 9/10 there hardly ever on point most of the time. You may get 1 maybe 2 people who genuanly engage in the discussion but most of the time it's just frontlines of DPS only.

When I addressed the actions of the OP that started all this, Why the contradiction here? If taking care of maters outside the forums applies to us, shouldn’t it also apply to them?
