I agree with the OP. On many levels. Actually it's one of my biggest dislikes of combat so far. It's just clunky. And someone mentioned that we have to confirm becuase of the AOE selection. Umm. Couldn't we just have the AoE selection actively up, similar to the new targeting function, so we won't have todo this?

BTW I'm sorry if this has ben debated to death and clarified already. I didn't read the entire thread

And trist me we don't want the spell list ffxi had... too many spells not enough space. I think all this "debate" is useless complaining just to complain as there is slowly not much complaining about. In ffxi if you made a /magic "Cure" <stpc> you still need to confirm who you selcted. Its not that hard to speed click buttons. I was a melee rdm who sub cured and never missed refresh on ppl or got to where I was having ppl ask me. I payed attention to the ticking. I never was complained about my cast speeds.

Honestly just speed click just do enter enter really fast. not really that hard.
Cool story. We're not talking about your play tho. Why you bragging? If you don't feel this topic is worth debating then please don't post. Especially when its off topic anyway. The command you wrote, "/magic "Cure" <stpc>" was not the only one available and likely not the one commonly used anyway. As a mage in XI i would use <p2-6>.

Speed clicking will cause your command to not even register half the time. It's not a solution.

Right now it has a console style select target system because i guess that felt more final fantasy

    >spells
    >select spells
    >which enemy, one/all
    >Cast

Dont get me wrong, i think that was a silly idea.

There is a /aoe command to toggle the mode and it defaults to single target upon login, one of those needs to be removed.

i think it would be nice if u could select AOE or single target once u select a spell to cast:

select Fire from bar, once selected press >>>(right) and it would make the spell AOE.

The problem isn't that it is hard, the problem is that it is easy to fix and they haven't done so in 5 months. as a systems/decission support anatsist this type of thing annoys the hell out of me because the responce shouldn't be "it isn't hat bad" it should, "what does it provide to game play, and is it worth the hastle to have it in, can we do something else here to fix the problems we are seeing?, should be ust drop it all together?" If SE is having these types of conversations as they should be, I personally do not see many examples of it.

They could easily remove AOE from all skills and spells and instead have a system that modifies the AOE into the skill or spell before you even select it. Toggled on and off by pressing L2+R2 together, or Ctrl and Alt together then have a UI widget that says which mode you are in.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

just give us an option to separate the AOE settings from each type of skills

    ex:

    AOE for heal, buff

    No AOE for attacking spells

in case we want to AoE attack? just toggle the command in our macro

    problem solved!
