How do I get a house?

I'm a bit new to this game and I have no idea how to get a house but I really want one. Can anyone tell me how I go about buying one? I occasionally see houses in certain wards have a price instead of name but lately I haven't seen any. Do I need to wait or something for another one of those to pop?

    Thanks in advance!

If they list a price those are available for purchase. Unless you already own a house you are subject to an invisible timer once the lot opens up where you have to sit and click buy on the placard for roughly 30mins-24h until it lets you finally buy it. Good luck getting lucky enough against the 10 other people camping it as well. Also, if someone decides to relocate to the plot you're trying for they can do that instantly, completely voiding the time you've spent there. The lack of housing has always been a failure on SE's part and the timer just adds insult to injury.

The lore of getting a new house:

Earth elementals protect houses and prevent demolition of a house unless the person has not visited the house in 45 days, at which point the elementals weaken, causing the ground to shake, and the house to vanish and the plot to be open.

However, the magic of the elements have not fully faded.
Yes, you can see the plot is available, yes you can see that you can buy the plot for a few million and go to the placard, but just because you can see the plot is for sale, and you can even click 'buy' does not mean you get the plot of land.
The elemental magic is still protecting the land, in hopes that one day the owner will return. The land is not rightfully yours, no, not yet.
Alas, you cannot battle these elementals.

It is during this time that you must sit in front of this empty land that is now "For sale" and repeatedly click the placard, hoping that the elementals will leave it alone and you can finally own the land, but there is no warning, no indication when they leave.
Just know that at one point they pick up and leave, and the magic will be gone and you can buy the empty plot and own the land.
It could be 30 minutes after the demolition has occurred that they leave, and reports have said that up to 24 hours have been viewed before they leave and you can actually 'purchase' the land.

During this waiting time there may be many other people that wish to buy this plot as well, and you may find yourself competing for an empty plot of land for up to 24 hours with what could be an infinite amount of people, many of whom are not even technically there,(AKA:Botting) just automatically checking the placard, hoping that after waiting there, that the elementals decided to leave.

The house may even become cheaper before it is available to buy, because nobody has bought it during that time, because nobody could buy it.

Oh also a side note, if you already own a house, the elementals will not stop you from relocating to that plot of land.

...the real version of how you get a house is far less exciting than this, but that's kind of how it works.

There is a thread in Housing sub forum called <<House Census: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...14#post5011214 >> where you can check daily the homes available for sale in the Data Center/server your character is. To reach every residential area in game you must unlock the basic residential area quests for each city and that happens by leveling your character.

♦ Mist quest title <<Where the heart is>>
lssuing NPC: Ahctkoen, located at: Lower La Noscea -Cedarwood -Red Rooster Stead (X: 31, Y: 20)

♦ Lavender beds quest title<<Where the heart is>>
Issuing NPC: Margeria, located at: Central Shroud -Bentbranch -Bentbranch Meadows (X:21, Y:21)

Goblet quest title<<Where the heart is>>
Issuing NPC: Imme, located at: Western Thanalan -Hammerlea -Scorpion Crossing (X:26, Y:24)

Kugane quest title <<I dream of shirogane>>

Issuing NPC: Tsurubami, located at: Kugane (X:12.0, Y:9.9)

Once you finish all of the previously mentioned quests, you can click on the Aetheryte in the following cities central Plazza (Kugane, U´ldah Steps of Nald, New Gridania and Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks) you will do the following steps:

    Step 1

    Step 2

Step 3 the numbers under the Ward 1-18 represent all wards, and the plots in green are of public access the red are of private access, the ones that aren't available have the current price instead of the character name

Select the ward you want travel to and open map by pressing key <<m>> you will see the numbers of the plots available and click on the plot placard to buy it, you must be careful to choose either Free Company if it is a guild house or Private if it is your character virtual house.

Getting one on a congested world like Gilgamesh is going to be extremely difficult. If you're not on Gilgamesh to play with friends, you might want to consider transferring to a world that has housing available. When I did the census for Coeurl this morning, we had over 170 smalls and 3 mediums available. Some of the other worlds have similar numbers available.

As AnnaRosa suggested, check out the Housing Census thread to get an idea of what worlds have housing available.

If you wish to stay on Gilgamesh, I'd suggest getting an apartment for now. While small in size, they cost a lot less and are not subject to demolition like houses are. You'd be able to take a break from the game without worrying about whether you'd lose your house and furnishings before you return to the game.

    @op,

while house hunting i suggest that you purchase an apartment for the meantime it's 500k gil a bit more expensive than fc private rooms. However, apartments are not subject to auto demolition, or displacement in the unfortunate event that your fc disbands, you can use the apartment store room to keep indoor furniture for future use once you get your home in the housing district of your choice.

Also, while house hunting and you are clicking on a placard of a plot that is under random availability timer, don't stay in one plot for a long time warp to other available plots every 15 mins. and then back again. Good luck sir/madam.
