So I know a lot of folks are planning on changing race or rolling up alts, and I thought it would be fun to share the various backstories we're coming up with for them. I'll start with my Veena alt.
For mine, she's 100% Dalmascan by way of Raz-at-Han. Her grandmother was a Veena from the mountains who fell in love with, and married, a Dalmascan Captain. They had four daughters together, two of whom had the Viera traits breed true. Those four went on to various ventures, some following their parents into martial pursuits some not. Her mother joined the Dalmascan military and married her father some time after with their eldest daughter being born a couple years later.
When the Garleans attacked, her parents helped evacuate their family and civilians to the waterways for safety, and when the city fell they gathered as many supplies as they could and escaped into the mountains with as many who would follow them under her grandmother's guidance. With the Garleans consolidating power in Dalmasca they were able to make their way around the empire and to the sea where they secured passage to Raz-at-Han.
From there, her family rallied the other refugees and began carving a niche out for themselves. My character was born there in the jewel bright city among the Dalmascan refugees who did their best to keep the spirit of their origins alive. She grew up speaking Dalmascan as well as common, and was always fascinated by the many cultures she saw around the city.
When she came of age and began showing signs of the same wanderlust that had enticed her grandmother to leave her people, her grandmother encouraged her to go and explore. After all, despite the price she'd paid, she had never regretted her decision to leave the mountain forest of her birth, and did not want her grand-daughter to regret not following her heart.
To that end, her family supplied her and she took passage on a ship destined for Eorzea and the nearest city of Ul'dah.
