Housing demolition timer need to be changed! Sitting on your property needs to count.

Personally, I feel paying a sub should be enough to secure your house. However, with the housing shortage we have, I know that won't get support. A large number of players desperate for a house seem eager to devise ways of taking houses away from others rather than pushing for Square to find some way of increasing the supply. Apartments were a step in the right direction but they need to have more features added and the option to increase the size, before people will accept them as a good substitute for a house.

I'm all for instanced housing and would love to see that expanded on, but at the same time I also believe that we need to keep the auto-demolition (and I'm saying that as someone who owns a house). Maybe the timer can be tied to having an active sub or get extended to 90 days or more, but it absolutly needs to stay. The truth is that people do stop playing for one reason or another and that even when housing wont be as limited anymore as it is we'd end up with houses that are basically just... dead.
When my old FC bought their first house - back, when housing was first introduced and you had free pick where to live - we already noticed that some homes were bought by people who stopped playing alltogether, making their homes quite a sad sight and us always go "Man, we could have some neighbours here... if it wasnt for this 3-man-FC who stopped playing the game 5 months ago..."

You still can sit there. As long as you don't care to enter housing, the change of owner didn't affected you. Be happy!

While I understand why we have the timer, I do feel the present system could be improved.

- a pop-up notice that your house is due for demolition would be useful, rather than hiding it on a sub-menu that many people don't even look at or know about.
- Indefinite storage of furnishings. I really feel for people who lose seasonal items and other stuff that has sentimental value. The time limit applies to people with a FC room who are kicked from their FC or whose FC goes inactive while they are taking a break, as well as people like the OP.
This is the only subscription game I know of that deletes player assets in this manner, even if the player in question is paying a sub.

See... I keep reading that they have no way to register you are on your own property, yet people cant come onto your property and use things like the fountains and lights. So somewhere the game has to realise who have rights to be there and who dosent right? Or am i wrong here...

As far as I can recall, the only interactive outdoor items are mailboxes, message stands, chocobo stables, and gardens. I don’t recall any fountains or light fixtures that can be placed outside that are interactive. Anyone can come and water your plants (they can’t harvest your plants, but they can tend to them) and access your message book—but these people do not reset timers of any kind (not even tenants with permissions in personal houses reset the demolition timer—only the owner can).

People cannot interact with a chocobo stable unless they’re a tenant or an FC member with the appropriate privileges, and all FC members and tenants can interact with a mailbox. The same restrictions apply to indoor fixtures—FC members have to have appropriate permissions to interact with housing items (last I checked), and only tenants can interact with interactive indoor furnishings should they be given permission to mess around with them. Random players cannot.


The OP’s argument is to have idling within the yard be enough—meaning they wouldn’t be interacting with the plot via fixtures or gardens. If something like interacting with a garden or a chocobo stable reset the timer, fine. But I still think an easier solution to not losing your house would be to actually go into and utilize the house itself. You only have to step inside for 5 seconds once every 45 days to keep it.

For me, it wouldn’t happen. Because I go into my house every day.
