Because why not? It serves no purpose. If you can make summon insta-cast, I'm sure you can do it for mounts, too!

i don’t really spend enough time on a mount to really care about it’s cast time.
Probably something to do with ease of running away from enemies and PVP fights..
Though it would make PVP pursuits interesting.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
You can't mount in combat, at least not in the open world. I'm sure they'd keep that in place. PvP? I don't really care as I hardly ever do it anyway. LOL
Agreed.
But to prevent players from mount cast spamming, how about to change it from a cast timer to a recast timer (3 secs or something).
So, you think picking on Lalas for their size is fun, huh?! Just a friendly reminder: We have ideal height to headbutt your balls, so you better keep this in mind.
Seems like a reasonable thing to me, though after a moments thought, I think they dont want you to be able to mount and book it in hostile places so easily. If youre gonna try and mount, you need to be in a safe place so you dont get interrupted. But not sure how big an issue that is.
I think you can still call a mount after getting aggro. I’ve always been under the impression that the cast timer exists so you can’t be like “Oh whoops, the treant aggro’d me, time to scoot.”.
If you have aggro you can't mount until you manage to leash or kill it.
It's a little late for that considering you can practically slow-walk away from them and still escape.
