Frame Rate Drops - Inventory and Cutscenes

I have been experiencing weird frame rate drops when I open my inventory and mouse over a piece of gear (and only a piece of gear), and also when in a cutscene that has a dialogue box.

Typically I get 60fps without any issue whatsoever. When I move my mouse cursor to a different item that isn't something that can be equipped, or if I move it away from the equippable piece of gear, my frame rate returns to 60fps. When in a cutscene, the cutscene will run at 60fps until a dialogue box pops up. When the dialogue box goes away, the cutscene returns to 60fps.

Specifically with these instances, the frame rate drop is so noticeable that the game becomes unsightly.

I have tried doing a clean install of my drivers, making sure any and all background programs are shut down, and anything else I can think of but I cannot seem to figure out what to do to fix this.

Any help that can be provided is tremendously appreciated!

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

How long have you been experiencing FPS drops? Do these drops occur when the game application is at a certain resolution?

Thank you for getting back to me. I first noticed issues with FPS drops in the instances I described after the May 27 maintenance, so I have been experiencing this for a little over two weeks now.

I run the game at maximum settings and at 3840 x 2160. Frame rate issues were non-existent beforehand.

**Update: I seem to have fixed the problem by running the game in compatibility mode. Strange how the game stopped running so well and now needs to be run through compatibility.

I'm having a similar issue, with massive FPS drops from 140 fps to 10 under fps . on 2560x1400. Similar builds as you as will i-7, RTX 2080 it. no problems prior 06/04/2019

this is the solution that was given to me but has no effect at all, but the result might be different for you. I'm just going to post it here to save you some time. because is the same for other threads.

they say it's not server or game related but I find that fps normalize for a while when you Re-enter a zone, relog or even teleport to a nearby Aetherite.



1) Disable any overlays you may have active (Geforce Experience, Discord overlay, etc.). These have been known to interfere with the game in some situations.

2) Set compatibility mode to Windows 7. Right-click on the ffxivboot.exe file and select ‘Properties.’ Then select the ‘Compatibility’ tab and choose Windows 7.

3) Try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

4) Do a clean reinstall of your graphics card drivers (even if they are up to date).

I did use compatibility mode last night, and it seemed to have fixed my issue entirely. However...

I started the game today in compatibility mode and the issue is back again.

I'm truly at a loss.
