The 'unwritten rule' for non-tank pulls in dungeons

Reading a few reddit posts, and also having some discussions with FC mates who pull for 'slow tanks', is there really an 'unwritten rule' that only tanks pull? My main in SB was PLD (before using WHM to help friends), and I always have pulled wall to wall or at least until I got gated out. However, with Gunbreaker coming soon, I think that there will be a lot of new or newer tanks who may not be as comfortable with huge pulls.

I honestly never advocate anyone but the tank pulling, as they know what their own comfort level is and if they can/want to handle larger pulls. However, some also argue that if the tank is going too slow, they have the right to pull faster if everyone but the tank wants to go fast. I'm not talking about tanks who can go faster but flat out refuse even when the rest of the party wants to, but moreso the new tanks or those not yet comfortable. Is it ever okay for dps or healers to 'pull for the slow tank'?

The tank is the only person that should be pulling, if they aren't pulling enough the party should talk to them about it since they might be new or uncomfortable with it for some reason. If they just refuse to is it really that big of a deal to spend an extra 3 min in an instance rather than 5-10 min arguing and wiping over nonsense?

When I dps the only time i grab mobs is when a stray aggros the healer, i just grab them and bring them to the tank.

In the wise words of "You spank it , you tank it"

The tank pulls. That is the way it has always been with me .
You get one free pull , after that I will not heal you.

As a tank I agree with the motto "if you pull it you tank it" but I also add on that I will tank it once in done with my current pack.

The reason I go slow isn't because I can't handle it.. I go slow so my healer dosnt get stressed and so they can help with fighting instead of spamming healing

The rule is as long as no one dies it's fine.

If a tank kills people by refusing to pick up adds, kick them and healtank. Because they refuse to do their job.

Tank is the least useful role in normal modes, so if they can't push one button to do their one job get rid of them.

The corollary to this rule is it doesn't matter what you personally want or are comfortable with, you should get kicked off if your party disagrees with you.

As someone who does all 3 roles. When I play healer I hate when tanks pull slowly. Same with DPS. Its more resourse friendly to pull as much as possible. I very rarely used a GCD heal as WHM when a tank pulls wall to wall.

If you're bored healing or whatever, and the tank seems to be handling things more than fine, I suppose you can ask the tank if they mind some extra spice, and some really won't mind at all. But in general or you don't feel like talking to the tank? No. You let the tank do their job without "helping".

I think your own personal approach is the right one, OP.

Pulling slowly puts more strain on resources than wall to wall.

I usually ask them to stop but yea if they keep doing it then yea they can tank it. You want to be a tank so bad Im not stopping you.

If Im asking you not to theres a reason, I dont like going slow either but either Im new to tanking that dungeon or the healer seems shakey with healing me and I dont want to risk it.

Healers don't get stressed when you pull large in level +50 content unless:
    - They are bad at healing
    - You are bad at tanking
    - Either of you are new to the dungeon

Pull wall-to-wall is the general rule in dungeons that are high level because everyone has AOEs.

On the other hand, when a DPS takes the aggro of something and gets ripped to shreds, not pulling it off the DPS causes me to have to heal multiple sources when I could be DPSing.

Honestly, if a tank ended up not pulling mobs off of a DPS in late game dungeons, even if the DPS pulled it, I would probably give them a little nudge to take them before vote kicking them.

Do the job of your class, or get shown the door. If the DPS are pulling more mobs, it's because you are pulling very little, and making the dungeon take twice as long so you can watch netflix while tanking.
