While you're technically correct, individual people rarely qualify for one label exclusively. Some of those of people probably like tons of elements from other cultures as well. In such cases, having those elements in a Japanese RPG might actually be a plus.

I grew up playing the Heretic and Hexen games on a Windows 98 computer. The series was dedicated to dark humor, dark fantasy, gloomy castles, dank swamps, and sinister 'churches'. Even though the games have absolutely nothing in common with the Final Fantasy series, I couldn't help but get those vibes from The Vault and Ishgard. Immediate like for me, lol.
