Players with disabilities, represent & share your feels!

( Abled folks, please keep the ishposting out of this thread, and if you have a disability please speak up!)

    Hi!

    I have

Cerebral palsy: one hand is essentially a claw, meaning my left hand is the hand I play with,

spinal stenosis: shards of bone growing into my spinal column

    a weak heart

    blindness in one eye

    dyscalculia and dyslexia

and a bunch of other intellectual disability stuff.

I main WHM on Balmung, and I was wondering where the other players w/ disabilities are and what you like to play? Do you have any frustrations? Any stories of triumph?

I get a lot of flack for healing too slow, or forgetting to take my heart meds, and yelling to take meds in Ul'dah shout chat. And there are times I wonder if the SE dev staff has any disabled QA staff testing things, as there is some content I'll never see.

THAT SAID, I love how responsive SE's devs are to the community, and that $120 device everyone hates? Is like a godsend to me. I love FFXIV.

I also saved a group where a newbieplayer tank kept running into an AoE to fight because it was 'where the biggest orange circle was' while a dps just.... stood in same spot over and over!

I'm also really looking forward to the new device!

I just have autism. The only thing it really affects is social situations, so I normally just do my daily dungeons, then work on my squad. I’m an amazing healer, at least I think I am. So it doesn’t affect my ability to play.

Autism - affects my social skills. Only really affects the MMO side of this game. I've made a lot of enemies in part due to my lack of social skills (including some very brazen accusations thrown at me, which I don't want to talk about)
ADHD - affects focus. I can't farm something for too long without a 5-10 minute break to refocus myself. Same principle applies in work too.
Dyspraxia - affects co-ordination and dexterity. Doesn't really affect me in this game, but I think I'm a little more fatfingered because of it...

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

I have severe arthritis and Lyme disease. One that often makes prolonged play at the computer painful and the other that gives me very limited energy to work with on top of other fun symptoms I'd rather not get into. I don't have it quite as bad as other people thanks to years of treatment but I do tailor my play and progression around my disabilities. I've had to cancel attempts at progression half way through because my hands just start screaming at me or the fatigue gets so bad I need to go lay down.

    I play BLM.
But no, really, my sight is really weak and the screen is too bright. It literally makes me cry.

I’m legally blind... so this is an obvious hobby lol. Just gotta sit close to the screen and make everything big and make sure to not get distracted.

I have autism spectrum disorder and ADHD.

I’ve gotten therapy so while the social aspects have improved for me they aren’t perfect. I used to offend people without meaning to before I got diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder knowing this has helped deal with people and also explain that I don’t mean to offend people if someone takes offense by something I said that wasn’t intended to be offensive.

With ADHD I have bad hand eye coordination and reaction time when learning new content I can grasp most none ex savage content in the harder end after a few times, I’ve cleared all the Stormblood ex trials but most of them I’m thankful to my friend calling out mechanics over voice because it made it easier for me to focus since a lot of times I tend to razor focus on one aspect and not focus on others.

I have Cerebral Palsy. A mild case that really only effects my hand writing and way I walk. I feel for ya man.

Also a friendly bit of advice! If you have been diagnosed with Autism? Get a second and third opinion. They hand out that diagnosis too freely. You might not have to have that label. Cheers!
