There's no shame in testing your limits and trying to grow as a player.

That tank that sprints off and pulls wall-to-wall is probably learning too. You're both learning off of each other.

Playing How Low Can We Go is what makes healing fun. What can I get away with? How much DPS can I do?

I think every healer who wants to optimize their play does this to some degree.

Mistakes will happen. We have to let them go.

<.< >.> I mean... I do this with my friends. It's basically playing chicken and their freak outs before I pop Bene when in Discord are delicious. But I won't do it with random tanks. XD

I know this is, more or less, a joke thread but the point isn't to just get the tank ridiculously low. It's to only heal him when he needs the heal. This usually means allowing him to drop below half or.more before taking him up with an instant heal, and managing a healthy HP with regens. This also means that if you can see them taking an abnormal amount of damage, you put your DPS kit away and heal.

It's all about to eyeing the HP bar of your party members and knowing what you can and can't be get away with. There's a noticeable difference between a healer who isn't healing you because they have fun waiting until the last minute, and a healer who simply knows when it's necessary to heal.

Most random tanks won't like you for it, but I guess if they don't die, no problem.

As long as you make it clear you know exactly what you are doing because some tanks might take it as a "oh I might need to pull less, I got low on health so maybe the healer is struggling".

So long as you let them know beforehand (or know them well already) it's fine. DF tanks I try to keep above 50% whenever possible.

Usually when I run into healer who is playing with my life, I assume they are trying to figure out how much leeway they have needing to actually cure me... which is understandable. Roulette gives you tanks that are squishy to tanks that seem to take no damage.

Mm...to atone for mild miscommunication, I did mention "I do this after the first pull to gauge how much they take" before continuing on.

Before coming up with the game and in any non-dungeon instance (raids, alliance), I do my job diligently, mainly keeping an Excog on the tank just about anytime its off cd unless I feel it isn't needed thanks to my co-healer (usually being a white mage which I tend to enjoy playing with more than astro) picking up any slack I may be leaving or the tanks are on point in the fight in general.

But when it boils down to most of the 70 dungeons currently speaking, unless the tank is undergeared or obviously inexperienced in the run or the role (someone tell me how it happens to be lv 70 and not know how to tank..), the risk is severely low to warrant needing to be super on top of keeping them topped off beyond the odd adlo to spread to the melee dps or just to reduce group damage, hence why I decided to make the game a personal test on how much I can get away with just leaving the slow bleeding to Eos on sic (plus esuna when necessary) when the tank pulls a larger mob.

Like I said, I'm fairly confident in my abilities in keeping a single tank alive without going full panic like I would learning a new raid/savage if they manage well after the first pull with minor intervention from me.

I'm seeing its a mixed bag of "don't do that you slag!" and "gauge your abilities", but either way, I'm still alerting them or bringing it to their attention that I'm going to play the "game" if they fare well past the first trash group (after sometimes examining their gear, 20% of the time...) rather than pop it on them without a word and leave them unaware of my intentions.

I'm a jerk (aka a cat), not a villain cause I will take blame if I mistime an ability and they die with 0-1 vulnerability and end the game then and there since I technically lost at the only goal of it, but so far that hasn't happened.
But so far, I haven't really had anyone berate me in-game about it when I make the rules clear, all they ask is I don't let them die and I can basically do whatever.

    I'll take full responsibility if that ever happens, but you'd have to be * * A C T I V E L Y * * trying to kill yourself for that to happen. owo

Truss it up however you like.

    I don't know you.

I see anyone make a declaration like this, it makes me trust them less, because by default I trust them for the norm of wall to wall. Bringing my attention to it just makes me wonder why you felt the need to say that.

    Confidence is silent, after all.

    Tank here.
I don't care how much HP i have as long as it's at least 1.

I also was scared for low HP in my early days of tanking but with the time i learned that i just overthink to much.
If i rotate my CDs their is nothing more i can do to prevent my HP from zeroing so i decided to just ignore that everchanging number and just focus on the fight.

In EXRs, Excog and Eos should take care of most of your healing needs. You're playing correctly. If they're not, the tank is undergeared or still learning. "Still learning" can mean a lot of things -- some tanks want to push themselves by using DPS stance. Some just have anxiety and leveled on PotD. Some used PotD because it was more convenient. The point is, with how fast it is to level, it's very possible for tanks to hit 70 and still be inexperienced or not comfortable.
