All of you are bashing this post like acting like none of you that play enjoy this game in the slightest bit. Yes we all want to see at least some change, but if you wanted a completely new game would you still be playing this one, waiting for the changes? I think people that want to see this game completely overhauled probably went to another MMO and look back at here waiting to see what changes are made. This happened in Aion, people got fed up with the game and a mass amount of people left. They loved the game, but slight things angered them enough to just leave. The system was still good, but things such as unbalanced pvp, and how the pvp worked in certain aspects caused them to leave. Later, Aion made these changes, and regained a major amount of old players resubscribing, and also received many new players to their game. They did not change their combat style, they did not change the graphic engine or overhaul a whole new world, they didn't add quests like crazy, nor did they do anything in the slightest to make the game more like WoW, and now it has a rather large community. Much more so than before they fixed these changes at least.
You're all saying "Oh, well 75% of people answered for major changes on a survey." Okay, that's just vague as can be. Darn straight I'd vote for change on almost any MMO. But no where does it say "Would you like a complete overhaul of the system?," 'cause if that's what it means by major changes, and they stated that in the survey, I have a feeling that number would be significantly lower. The people still playing FFXIV most enjoy something about the game to keep them playing, otherwise, like stated previously, they'd just leave, find another game, and look back for changes while this game was running. If they saw the changes they wanted, they would come back. Changing a whole system with the changes a lot of people want would stream-line this game, which, at first may seem very good for business. But when there are so many other stream-lined games already out, such as WoW and Rift, there's no way to compete, and no reason to. The people that come to FF games, I've noticed, tend to want to get away from stream-lined crap. They want to play something different. They may want slight changes that use the same engine/systems, but with variations. That's a change, but swapping out a whole new system, now that's an overhaul.
They may think animations are too bland, or clothes all look the same and too generic. They may think slight variations to the combat would make it better, but not a whole new system, otherwise, if they hated the system all together, why would they stay? Some may want an auto-attack feature that makes you attack automatically when your gauge fills up. Or some may want the same exact system with auto-attack thrown in (a different type of auto-attack, which I will explain right now) where you still have normal attacks you use when your gauge fills up to gain TP or what have you, but depending on the speed of your weapon you automatically attack without any skills, even your normal ones. This would leave the system how it is, but give more of a fast-paced rush, instead of wondering why the hell your character's standing still doin' nothing, waiting for a gauge to fill up. Or maybe the player wants pvp implemented in someway. Maybe they want those wastelands of nothingness to be filled with more props and objects and monsters. These are all slight changes that keep the same aspects of the game, but improve upon them, and are what I would imagine the majority of people want.
Why would I imagine the majority want this? Because there are only so many people posting overhauls that they want. Like what, 50 of them? Sure more than 50 want those major overhauls but 50 are speaking out. As the poster stated, those are unhappy tend to speak out, while those happy don't. Why would someone happy speak out? The game's already good and how they like it, and the company already said they're gonna fix it up a little to improve upon. So 50 people say they want overhauls, but what about the thousands of players that aren't saying anything? If someone already stated they want an overhaul, someone else isn't gonna say they want the same or similar overhaul because that'd be redundant and the idea has already been contributed to the company. But those happy with the game, do not speak, and they do not speak because it seems pointless. "Hey SE, I'm happy with the game!" No, they're too intent actually being happy with the game to waste forum space with their opinion that doesn't really seem like it matters.
I have to whole heartily agree with this thread because I've played many, many MMOs, and players do need to say when they like something. Once again, I bring up Aion. In that game it was often advertised as a PvP game with open world PvP, so it attracted a huge crowd of PvPers. But, because of it's pretty graphics, some PvErs came. The PvErs all raged that they got ganked and die while questing, so they complained, and Aion took out the ability to PvP anywhere. This, of course, made them lose a wide majority of their players. Obviously, seeming all those subscriptions end showed they screwed something up, so they made a survey, asked if people wanted pvp or pve more. The survey, after 2 months + of voting, ended in major favor of PvP anywhere. Thus, they brought PvP back. However, just a few weeks later, they changed it back to not being able to PvP anywhere, solely because PvErs were crying they didn't like dying while questing or on their way to an instance. So even with the survey winning majorly in favor of PvP, they took it back out, and lost their subscriptions. The point being, a company can listen to players too much, because they think just because a few players cry about a certain something, it's what everyone wants. Sadly, NCSoft still hasn't gotten that through their brain, as they continue to repeat the process and lose players, which I think would be message enough. However, as SE seems to be a much smarter company, I think they'll be able to realize this (hopefully) in time.
