Thread: Changing Roles for 5.0?

1. I'm usually playing a healer (WHM) with some off time tanking and magic DPS

3. I initially plan of taking my DRK to cap first, then WHM and finally MCH

4. Both B and D, I really like the changes to tank stance and removal of the threat combos. Since I have a compulsion to try and play 'correctly' trying to drop out of tank stance during boss fights kinda stressed me out, since DPS usually never used their threat cooldowns and they get awfully close to pulling aggro. I tanked a lot back in Wrath of the Lich King back when aggro wasn't a concern.

5. Im always hesitant to be in the leader role of the party but after so many years of just healing and throwing rocks, I need something a little different. Whm will be my backup, and I just really want to be Edgar from FF6, I always had him in my party.

Fun survey (yes, there's also a lot of angst as well)…

1. I main MNK/SAM (Yeah, yeah, so does a ton of the playerbase) though SAM is looking to be a real powerhouse this time around, and with blunt/slashing/pierce being taken out means raiding won't be... so bad? (though Litany and Trick are still there soooo...)

2. Gunbreaker looks legit solid right now... tanking looks far more inviting now, nuts to stance dancers it was dumb pointless "balance" mechanics that needed to go away. Enmity needed a huge rework anyway. I have DRK and WAR as tanks to help those who need a tank (or Rathalos EX), but I kind of want to do the story as GNB, but I've never tanked a lot of trials so that makes me a bit nervous.

3. Gunbreaker, because tanking looks way more fun now with the changes.

4. I like Samurai, but with the huge amount of people who main it it makes pugging raids hard because of competition, and when I tried going as NIN or DRG I slowly started to hate playing both because of how strict their rotations became... well, DRG anyway. NIN I became a literal one trick pony that has to Shadewalk DPS tanks that can't keep aggro.

5. Trials as tank. There is a large reason I don't have a lot of EX trials cleared, because 1) if you don't clear it by a certain point you never will unless you have a good FC. 2)Tanking, next to healing is high stress. I get enough of that IRL, and gamers these days have no filter (or good social skills lol).

1. I'm currently a healer main. I play Ast most of the time, but have raided as all three healer.

2. Yes. Starting with Shadowbringers I will be a DD main. I'm lucky my static is flexible.

3. I will play through the story as Blm and level Dnc afterwards. My static mate wants to play either Smn or Dnc - so we will level both our two jobs to 80 and decide then.

4. For me it's a combination of A, C and D. As I already got bored being a healer, I think the changes will make them even more boring, because I wanted a more complex design for them, but we got the opposite. I just need a change. And I also played DD from time to time and right now Blm and Dnc are way more appealing to me. And the start of a new expention is the best time to switch mains I think.

1. Which is your current/main/favorite role (tank, healer, dps) in FFXIV?
Healer

2. Are you considering trying out or changing to a different role for the launch of Shadowbringers?
I play all three roles. Though when it comes to DPS I only play the melee jobs, but I will always be a healer first and foremost.

3. If so, which role are you considering? Any particular job for that role?
I am giving serious thought to adding MCH to the list of jobs I play. I'll give it a try and if I like it, then I will certainly spend a lot of time playing it.

4. Are you switching because: A) don't like changes to you current role/associated jobs, B) really like changes to other role, C) a job in another role looks much more appealing/exciting, D) just need a change of pace, E) other
I'm not switching, but I'm not happy with gutting SCH and the simplification of AST cards. B and C apply mostly here with my interest in MCH. I am also starting up a Viera alt, and I want her to have different experiences than my main, so my Viera will focus on jobs I have not leveled with my main. Particularly ranged DPS such as BRD and DNC

5. If you are tempted to try something different or change roles but are hesitant, what is holding you back?
Nothing. I play what I enjoy and what I am comfortable with. I don't let things like anxiety and favoritism hold me back from trying something different that I think I might enjoy. My greatest concern going into ShB is if I am going to be able to continue to enjoy the jobs I do now.

1.) MNK/WHM/WAR

2.) I play all 3 no matter what to be versatile in party comps.

3.) changing to DNC/WHM/PLD

4.) I don’t like all the weird slow down they added to monk and taking away all those fun off globals.
I’m changing to PLD cuz it seems more appealing than WAR. And staying WHM cuz I hate what they did to Astro and SCH

5.) gun breaker I’m hesitant cuz I don’t know if I’d like it. Have to try first. My info on it is low.

DRK/SCH/RDM are my 'Main Classes'. I'll probably use DRK for the main story then level Dancer, Gunblade, and then the rest of the tanks. Then I'll try SCH at least as much to level it from 70 to 80, but i'm really disappointed how its been completely gutted so I may end up abandoning healing in general this expansion.

TANK! I like em all and swap between them as i like

No way im changing my main, but ill try more dps

Machinist changes look so fun right now, and the head of the queen shares my warrior helmet.

I feel I should do more healing, but ive never found it fun.
