Im sorry, but I gotta ask because I see you’re from Marlboro...... we’re you visiting Balmung or Mateus when that happened?Don't underestimate what can be done with emote spamming.
One time, late at night, when I had leveled my first job to somewhere in the low 50s, I had just completed a job quest and I was standing in Gridania, organizing my inventory and gear. I couldn't see much going on around me, as having those tabs open took up a lot of space on my screen (especially with the smaller monitor I had at the time). After a moment, I hear some grunting. Sounds like a couple of male voices.
I figure, "Oh, it's just a couple of guys dueling," which I now realize doesn't really happen here, but it's a common thing in most MMOs, so I ignore it and continuing poking around in my inventory.
I then notice it's been going on for a pretty long time. Also, I'm not hearing any weapon or spell noises. I close my tabs to see what's going on, because that constant grunting is starting to annoy me a little.
I see about eight naked males crowding around my character, starting and aborting some emote over and over again, which sort of made it look like they were dryhumping her.
They all continued to follow me around town until I teleported to another city. I didn't think to report them at the time (I was just annoyed and wanted it to stop), but I really should've.
Nope; server visit wasn't a thing yet.
She's got a chicken to ri-ide, she's got a chicken to ri-i-ide...
She's got a chicken to ride, this game's from Square!
Okay, because I wandered into those places and see that kind of nasty stuff happen there. But it was a group of lalafell following this poor Roe dude.
was crafting in limsa (along others) then this one female potato came and do laugh emote nonstop for like 1 hour (dont know how the guy do it)Don't underestimate what can be done with emote spamming.
it was the most annoying things i ever heard
This sorta brought back memories from a long time ago when DRG's would stand over crafters and constantly spam that one ability that I forget the name of.
I'm sorry but that's just how online games work. Sometimes people will emote spam a rando to get a reaction out of em. It's all good fun. If that was harrassment to you, stick to single player games.
Or learn manners and learn to be a nice human being for goodness sake.
It's really not that hard to be nice. If people wanna tank or think they can do better, then go do it.
Not sit around and be childish. OP did extra good by not talking and just vote kicked.
He also said they said some snide remarks as well.
We come here to play a game and have fun, not get bullied and harassed.
I see a lot of people jumping to the conclusion that some emotes are just annoying. They should petition Square-Enix to remove annoying emotes. Then they wouldn't be having this problem.
No, that's not what posters in the thread are doing. They're saying some people take the (otherwise acceptable) emotes and use them to abuse other people. The sort of person who uses spam emotes to elicit responses from others is just as likely to create hassles, upsets or other disturbances in other ways should any particular emote be removed. Besides, the OP already said their major beef was their party member wasted time by typing needlessly rude comments from the offending individual in their party. If that party member hadn't the emotes, they still had the capacity to type in stupid. Would we remove the ability to communicate in party chat from everyone because some people say the daftest things? No, we blacklist them, report them if necessary. Just as the OP wisely did. And kudos to the OP for coming back into the thread to clarify their position, and just making the thread in the first place. That's the conscientiousness I personally like to see in a player.
You don't remove things because a few people will do something daft or harmful with them. In general, and noting there is contextual nuance to this statement, you first educate everyone on how to use item X and when not to use item X, and deal with any incidents thereafter within a scaling system relative to the offence. For our purposes, that education is the ToS we all sign up to by playing the game, and our system is the report/blacklist/GM action trio. The GMs will likely have internal guidelines we are not privy to in addition. So, again, no. We needn't descend into the hyperbolic rationale of having emotes removed.
Sometimes when I bored, I follow a sprout, and jump next to them until they jump back. Should I stop? Nobody has complained yet, but I can see how following someone could be seen as creepy.
