Setting the level cap to 50 instead of 60 might also be a big factor. Response might have been more favorable if people could have run Palace of the Dead and/or Diadem with Blue Mage.Ultimately, I still like the idea of Limited Jobs. It's a way of letting players have an alternative experience in the game with things that players wouldn't otherwise get their hands on. The only real problem is that Blue Mage needs its own roulette to provide more evergreen content.
ffxi has very different job design.https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki...nal_Fantasy_XI) :
Blue Mage is an advanced job added in Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion of Final Fantasy XI. Blue Mages are capable of dealing heavy physical or magical damage, healing and support, debuffing, or tanking. They can learn enemy abilities that either enhance themselves or deter their enemies.

When there is president for something that line of thinking just makes you seem... Ill just say less.
ffxi doesnt have a hand holding job system. There is no duty finder, so no job is required to be anything specific. you could have a hexa strike whm/warrior trying to be a dps.
hybrid jobs were normal in ffxi, rdm, dancer
there was less of a strict mold in ffxi. Beastmasters had a very different method of doing things.
point is, ffxi was a fundamentally different game design, where really they could and would design anything they wanted into the system. Ffxiv job design is very centered on being streamlined into how its meant to function in the duty finder and its specific role in a duty group. Just the aquisition method alone would be something they wouldnt want in duty groups.
this is a mistake in perception, when they said blue mage is unbalanced, they didnt just mean in terms of power, they meant in terms of design. % Chance abilities disrupt normal party flow. Access to cross role abilities is fairly limited. Wildly varying skill pools, decided by the player. Synergies.Which is why they should be ridiculous. We should be able to solo primals with them. We should be able to waltz through dungeons doing a Shantotto laugh because the mobs are fools for challenging us. We should be absolute gods on BLU, to add to the fun factor. It would also make farming old content very satisfying.
Also going to be the one that points out that we have not seen everything the limited system has to offer yet. Yoshida expressly said this during one of the interviews he did at either eu or jp fanfest and that at launch in 4.5 they only released about 50% of the content they had planned for blue mage and the limited job system, planning to release the rest during the 5.x series and they would be looking at blue mage feedback more after that.
There should be Jobs and there should be Minigames, Never minigame jobs.
I think it fine have jobs that aren't focus on end game content through I wish that they could be more involve in some content involve the party. I mean many people love glamour I not away fond of that
I think the thing that irks me more than anything else is that the job itself isn't actually broken, or even over balanced for anything that isn't Sastasha level dungeons. The breakpoint where 1k needles falls off is around 40ish. Right around the time dungeons actually start being more than just spamming your 1, 2 combo. Every class at least has its 3 by that point. So it does comparable damage, even when synced down to the other jobs. I've been doing Syrcus runs due to the moogle event. Okay, yes. I can Tail Screw the dragons, and that's funny. But for fighting the bosses, alongside other jobs, with my full 49/49 toolkit? I'm literally just the same as them. I do less damage, but Peculiar light makes the casters super happy, giving them more personal DPS at the cost of my own. SOUND FAMILIAR? It's not like we've had classes specifically designed around that or anything, really...
