WoW this, WoW that: Why are FFXIV forum users so obsessed with WoW refugees?

The answer is simply this.

Wow players, and the vocal majority got on forums and provided feedback that led WoW down the path of ruin it's on now.

That being said FF developers take our feedback seriously and for better, we have steered the ship with our constructive feedback. Overall despite some strawman arguments people are inevitably going to use against me, this game has done pretty good.

The problem is, do you want people who casualized WoW and provided direct feedback that led them to turn WoW into the game it is now, provide criticism on our game and turn it into something it is not? To steer the game towards the same iceberg they steered their game into?

No, WoW's number were cooked, just like FF14's.

According to several google searches, they claim that it was 12 mil at its peak.

We can only guess what it is but ive seen ppl post that only about 700k has finished msq (maybe off by a few 100k I am remembering at top of head) our peak i think was maybe 1.5 mil. Sp if wow had 12mil at one time and mmos are niche genres in the first place, pls explain how this community is not built on the backs of former wow players.

Yeah...no. The problem is that the devs stopped listening to their player base entirely, all the while asking for feedback that they ignore anyway. Yoshi P and company take the time to listen, even if they don't like what's being suggested. But they do right by the player base for the most part and I love that.

Ehh... While I'm not gonna say if other fanbases are trash or not.. I will say are we any better? Really? I've been here long enough to see some insane horible sh-t here. The only thing that puts a hard line between here and other places? This forum is sub and level locked. So the only thing you can really take away is everyone posting here is actively paying SE. But going off few topics the forums are def the darkest side to the XIV players. Just bring up housing or DPS meters or healer dps and the toxic waters will rain.

Did you play WoW? The multi-thousand page uproar over the removal of flight and Pathfinder, that to this day hasn't been reverted. The similar uproar when they added a gcd to instant cooldowns. The uproar when Karabor, Bladespire and a whole raid tier were scrapped in WoD and the loss of nearly 5 million subscriptions? The countless ignored threads asking for reforge back. Several-hundred-page class threads pointing out gamebreaking flaws in beta that were ignored resulting in the class needing emergency buffs and tweaks for a month after release. The endless complaints about Titanforge and rng that have now been made a core part of the game. Massive nerfs to leveling speed. Dungeon trash doubled in quantity while rewards are lowered.

The WoW Devs are notorious for a "we know better" attitude. It's even become a meme. Their head Dev is a lawyer and excels in avoiding questions and dancing around feedback.

FF's Devs in comparison are far better and can both listen to feedback and approach it with common sense, but you can't claim FF's playerbase hasn't been trying to steer the ship into the casual iceberg. "Nerf Shinryu, nerf Mist Dragon, nerf Thunder-God Cid, nerf crafting, nerf gathering, nerf relics, ban other players for offering me advice, these 4 buttons NPC controlled fights are too hard nerf plz, remove positionals, remove role actions...".
That isn't WoW's playerbase. They're used to NPC controlled fights, mythic+ dungeons and all had dps meters. That's FF14 community feedback.

Yes. They removed flying from the game and re-introduced it behind one of the longest time gates that exists in the game because the dev's got salty that people were "flying over and skipping" their content. No matter how much feedback was given it was completely ignored.

FFXIV players like to think they're special, that they are better or superior than WoW players. While FFXIV community is indeed less vocally "toxic", it's far from being rainbows and sparkles like people try to paint. I would say that it's just a different type of toxicity tbh. I feel like we just have a bigger bunch of anxious players that are afraid of conflict and wants to keep an appearance of "hey! everything is perfect!" while trying to shut down anyone that thinks otherwise in a very aggressive way.

well wow and FF14 is probably the biggest sub based mmorpg right now, so if one is getting stalled its pretty obvious where to look.

just like in real life if we talk about apple, most of the time people will also remember samsung.
