To compound on that, WoW expects people to contribute decently at their selected classes and specs. Those that don't, get called out as the resources are easily accessible and gear optimization is made by automated tools on 3rd party websites. FFXIV on the other end allows players to do w/e the hell they want and you'll be shunned from expecting someone to play their role along the only playstyle that is designed for the job. WoW players try to be good, XIV players actively put the least effort possible. 2 entirely different mentalities.

I've played with folks from WoW. 2 were in my FC. One is still there and when he gets online he's a cool dude. Other played a roegadyn, also a cool dude.
Now, I've never dealt with WoW players with poor attitudes in game. In fact I rarely see folks admitting they played WoW. Outside of the game however I see their comments in places. Saw one getting mad that someone was being sociable in a dungeon. I see a lot of them excited about Hrothgar. I see some wishing FFXIV had this thing or that.
From what I can tell most WoW players don't interact a lot with folks in game. Which may stem from the fact that the WoW community seemingly doesn't communicate as much in game, at least not positively for the most part. They have cliques and things, but as far as I can tell they don't seem to be as sociable. And in their transition to FFXIV they more than likely haven't shaken the habit of just going through the game and ignoring people. Which would leave a lot of them very much silent. The outliers are either very sociable and have come here for that or are the kind of WoWfugees folks lament about. Naturally if the few instances where a WoWfugee speaks up and it's negative that'll reverberate further than a WoWfugee who's integrated and is just playing the game and having fun.
At least that's my thought on it. I don't think most folks really care what games folks came from.
    This
Also i want to point out that.
It takes only one person to create a hateful thread, and there are really only few people around forum who are blaming wow refugees for everything.

Not all WoW players are toxic, and that's what a lot of people fail to understand.

Just because someone played WoW doesn't mean they automatically become a toxic elitist know it all.

I've played WoW for years before switching over to FFXIV. I'm not a toxic person, at least i don't think i am.

I'm very social and get along with almost everyone in the novice network. I usually try my best to help sprouts who have questions.

But because i played WoW i guess some people think i'm a toxic elitist by default i guess.

WoW is well known for having symbols of elitism and the most embarrassing mmo player behavior. XIV's a tranquil lake on the surface while hosting disgusting horrors beneath. It's easy to play the blame game on toxicity when you can point to the bog and all it's creations.

I mean we aren't, the handful of nutjobs posting these threads are thankfully not representative of the forum user base let alone the playerbase. Half of it is outright bait and the other half is people just not wanting to admit how toxic and bad they are so want to pass the buck.

Just something people like to throw blame at, rather than acknowledge the fact that a lot of XIV's community, especially the casual side, are just not very nice people, and its been like this for a while

Honestly, this is mostly just par for the course during the wind up for the next expansion. Most people have nothing else to really do in game, so they just sorta look for something else to do and being upbeat and positive can only last so long. So they shift to just complaining endlessly about something and have to spread that complaining and pessimism across every conceivable corner of the forums. And this just continues over and over until the expansion releases. It's what happened with Stormblood and Heavensward. Hell, I remember a lot of WoW refugee bitching threads in the lead up to Stormblood's release.

    EDIT!

Actually, to continue off this and just ride off into the sunset. I can pretty much tell ya how the forums are gonna go for a while. Shadowbringers is gonna launch, lots of threads with more informed feedback regarding the job changes, both good and bad, are gonna pop up. As well as just more "You ruined X thing" threads, "Game is dying" threads, "I'm unsubbing cause X" threads. Alongside those will be threads regarding spoilers and stuff, some even having spoilers in the title. The waifu war will resume. And overall, the forums will become a bit of a minefield of hilarity.

Following this, the next big forum shake up will be when the first raid tier is released. The forum will then ONCE AGAIN be plagued into oblivion with threads crying for parsers, crying for the banning of anyone using parsers, crying for SE to not even consider adding parsers, asking if parsers are truly needed, yelling at Yoshi-P for being hard line against parsers, praising Yoshi-P for being hard line against Parsers and really, it's just gonna become parser central for a while.

After that the forum will settle into a sorta chill period, more discussions about story will happen as we get more patch MSQ, deep dives into the new lore will start (Oh I'm lookin' forward to that!) then the usual side quests will begin. (If you think us going to The First is going to somehow stop Hildibrand and crew from showing up...you haven't done the Hildibrand quests.) And folks will be discussing those. Glamour threads will return, the "Show your X" threads will be back stronger then ever before due to more glam options and the newest additions of "Show your Viera" and "Show your Rons-I mean Hrothgar" threads.

And then just sorta rinse and repeat the last two until the next expansion gets announced and then we once again, dive head first into the speculation pit.

I've met several people from WOW. Sometimes they say they are from WOW when running a dungeon for the first time and asking questions. They've all been friendly and fun to talk to. It's unfair just to assume that if someone is from wow that they are toxic. I mean in my opinion assuming someone is toxic because they come from another game, is toxic itself.

Don't worry guys Shadow bringers will arrive soon and a lot of the troll threads will stop.

I've thought about it sometimes, how people talk about WoW (or sometimes WoW players about FFXIV). Pretty sure it's just that standard US vs THEM and offloading of flaws and responsibility in part to inflate self appearance, like we see in politics (tribe feel goods). "We're so accepting and loving, unlike those "insult here" who are "insult here" and the world would be better without them" (seen it from all sides). AKA some standard human thing we all love to do lol, I know I've done it (although we should all try not to do it , world isn't that simple).

Having played WoW for a while (way back when) while I felt minor differences here and there I didn't feel one was inherently nicer than the other community. (Played TBC and vanilla only). Like for example in my experience people took death better and were more open to feedback with parse data while here I feel more often random people helping out with raises and cures and such (our healers are nicer? lol).

Anyway I didn't feel one was evil and the other was not. Of course I've been away for a long time. I think the other issue is the more popular a game gets the more negative experiences you'll have and since people tend to remember negative ones clearly it makes something appear to be worse even if technically there could be more positive experiences too.

I think a lot also stems from the mentality a lot of WoW players have expressed online, degrading FFXIV for the past few years, saying it copied all of WoW even though XI was released prior, it's a badly made game, sooo slow and boring, etc. So there are some people who have themselves in a twist over that behavior, even though I highly doubt it's those people who said those things who came here after the WoWpocalypse. Likely anyone who said those things that did leave WoW would have gone to more of the Pubg type games.
