WoW this, WoW that: Why are FFXIV forum users so obsessed with WoW refugees?

As a GW2 refugee (yes we exist), i don't understand all this hate for WoW refugees.

Is it just as a scapegoat? Do you find it that hard to believe FFXIV could have its own toxic players?

We've had WoW refugees in GW2 since a long time and GW2's community was never "WoW toxic, GW2 good", instead, they always welcomed them and sometimes even went as far as gifting them an expansion.

I've met a bunch of "WoW refugees" in FFXIV and they are actually funny and down-to-earth people. Obviously, experiences can vary for everyone, but i feel like all this hate is unwarranted from the so-called and proclaimed "nicest MMO community".

People dont want to come to terms with the reality that FFXIV has its toxic players so instead they shift the blame to WoW refugees being the cause.


I was a WoW player for 14 years until Heavensward launched and while in my opinion FFXIV has the better community everyone is personally accountable for their own behavior. It has nothing to do with whether you are a WoW refugee or a FFXIV player.


Accept that every community has it's bad apples and stop with this group blaming mentality. It's not healthy.

Day is nearly at end, nothing good in tv and Fate pop takes ages. Thats why ppl look for another activity and to be honest i didnt have met even 1 WoW refugee on Ragnarok. Yes there are some ppl here and there that have played the game, i also did but none of them acts like the ppl described in the other thread. Also i the number of rly toxic players i met since i started to play this game i can count on with one hand and i started with 1.0.

@Above WoW was released 2004, Heavensward 2015 that makes 11 years not 14.

Mixture of fear mongering, anecdotal stories, and memeing.
I've played with folks from WoW. 2 were in my FC. One is still there and when he gets online he's a cool dude. Other played a roegadyn, also a cool dude.
Now, I've never dealt with WoW players with poor attitudes in game. In fact I rarely see folks admitting they played WoW. Outside of the game however I see their comments in places. Saw one getting mad that someone was being sociable in a dungeon. I see a lot of them excited about Hrothgar. I see some wishing FFXIV had this thing or that.
From what I can tell most WoW players don't interact a lot with folks in game. Which may stem from the fact that the WoW community seemingly doesn't communicate as much in game, at least not positively for the most part. They have cliques and things, but as far as I can tell they don't seem to be as sociable. And in their transition to FFXIV they more than likely haven't shaken the habit of just going through the game and ignoring people. Which would leave a lot of them very much silent. The outliers are either very sociable and have come here for that or are the kind of WoWfugees folks lament about. Naturally if the few instances where a WoWfugee speaks up and it's negative that'll reverberate further than a WoWfugee who's integrated and is just playing the game and having fun.
At least that's my thought on it. I don't think most folks really care what games folks came from.
