So... I've spent some money to obtain it from the Mogstation, because I really like the weapon's looks, and would level WHM to use it. I usually don't bother to glam stuff while I'm leveling because it quickly gets replaced.

Anyway, recently I've reached 70 and was hyped to get to use Vanille's weapon, just to discover (unless I'm terribly missing something) that it's practically useless! It's classified as an one hander, and I can't glam it to canes.

What gives? Is even possible to ask for a refund on this thing? Why they would keep an item in mogstation that costs real money but you can't even use it?

Couldn't they just re-classify it as a 2 hand weapon, so I can do something with it? Or at least take it off Mogstation, so people wouldn't fall in this trap...

Anyway, this might seem a minor thing, but it's really frustrating both because I've spent money on it and because I really liked that weapon.

Edit: I suppose the BLM weapon also has this same problem, so glad I didn't bother to buy it either.

These items were originally released in-game during the XIII event back in ARR, when one-handed staves were still being made/used, primarily as a carryover from 1.0 (which had both one-handed and two-handed staves). So they were introduced during a time when it was still possible to glamour them onto one-handed weapons that could actually be used (for the most part - ARR primals have one-handed weapons one could use as a level-capped weapon).

That said, I understand the frustration. I believe it's been asked before to allow one-handed staves for both CNJ/WHM and THM/BLM to be glamoured over two-handed ones, but the developers have never implemented the feature. Can't recall if they ever gave a reason for it.

Well, if there's a technical issue behind it not being converted to an actual 2h weapon, I really think the developer team should discontinue the item, because as a XIV novice, I didn't think when I got this, that the disclaimer it had "not useable as a 2h conjurer arm" would actually be detrimental of not being able to use it at all on level cap.

Or at least the disclaimer should be better written as saying that WHMs only wield 2handers.

I know I might sound petty, but I would never have purchased it if I was pretty sure it wouldn't work. I could have done more research, yes... But then, as a new player, there's so much to look after, that you won't really notice this detail.

To be fair, they have a notice "This item cannot be used as a glamour for two-handed conjurer's arms." but this wording doesn't indicate to a new player that WHM doesn't have acces to 1h weapons at level cap. And the frustration is only worse because the item was purchased with real money.

So technically they aren't doing anything wrong. The disclaimer is there... But then, it's a trap for sprouts, especially when the weapon is so good looking. (The moogle rod too)

The technical reason is that you can only glamour items of the same category, which in most cases is not an issue, but "one-handed conjurer's arms" and "two-handed conjurer's arms" are programmed as separate categories.

I assume this is how the game knows whether to let you equip a shield, where the wand is carried when not being used (wand on hip / staff on back) and which animation to use when you pick it up.

I realize that... But couldn't they just copy the item model into a "new 2h item" and replace it?

I bought the moogle rod for my alt just to do a White Rabbit cosplay. Can't take it into high-leveled stuff of course, but I glamoured it onto a Lv50 wand and I'll use it for Guildhest Roulette sometimes, since I can be sure I won't get anything that it's underpowered for.

(Also I feel a bit silly wearing novelty costumes into "serious" dungeons, but short-form non-story things like guildhests seem more acceptable.)

In this specific case, I think you have pretty good grounds to demand a refund if you are willing to destroy the one-handed item you have in your inventory. Emphasize that the item is useless to you since you didn't realize that there are no "Endgame" weapons for CNJ/WHM available for you to use the glamour item with.
