Characters in the First, wishlist?

A bit part of why Moengryda's death fell flat for me was the scene right after it.

Moenbryda does her big sacrifice, making it clear she had some sort of revelation right before she died.

Then Uriangr comes in, lamenting about how her death is partiuclarly tragic because she never figured out the thing. But fear not, for we heard her say that she finally understood right before she died! How nice! Maybe it would have been nice to develop her in this way BEFORE she died and then not have the awkward post mortem exposition?



IF you're going to count Yotsuyu , a villain, you should count Livia as one too for ARR.

No.... because Livia was never given a second chance, nor would she want it. Dango-eating Tsuyu is the reason Yotsuyu mattered, even if for a fraction

Makes me wonder what female character they plan to ki this exp. Moenbryda was ARR, Ysayle was HW and Yatsuyu was StB makes sense that they would keep the pattern going into ShB.

Not like we haven't had a lot of sympathetic male characters die too. Louisoix, Papalymo, and Hauchefaunt spring immediately to mind.

I imagine there will be "Easter Eggs" like the Launch trailer showed us a copy of that sexy daddy whose name I cannot quite recall. I wouldn't be suprised if there was a Rowena-like character / institution. Just like the Ronkan seem to be the Allagan of the First. These are almost needed in terms of gameplay too (unless Rowena hear about us wandering on the First and seizes the opportunity to make even more cash on our back by sending us do collectables there)
As long as it makes sense in the lore of the First, I'm fine with it.

I would like to see a actual Doppelganger of our own character even if it is for a moment that had turned into a Sin Eater.

Personally my preference is that the First must have versions of characters we know, then they should not be duplicates of characters we know. Instead, they are the same archetypes.

So our counterpart on the First is (was?) Arbert, as the Warrior of Light who gets to contend against Primals and other such threats. The Bre-brother lookalike we may meet on the First isn't actually a version of a Bre-brother, but instead the idea of a travelling merchant, and his resemblance to a Bre-brother is sheer coincidence. There might be a Rowena-alike, as a ruthless trader who has built a mercantile empire selling to and buying from adventurers, but they might not literally be Gerolt's ex.

It's kind of like in Discworld, there are "versions" of CMOT Dibbler everywhere, but that doesn't mean these Dibblers are actually related to each other. They just share in the same archetype of the enterprising merchant who sells foodstuffs of suspicious provenance wherever a crowd is gathered.

Actually, no, that's precisely what YianKutku is NOT saying.

Mirror universe Trek is what others, like EdwinLi are gunning for - actual copies of people we know, but with different backstories. So, for instance, someone who looks exactly like Estinien exists on the First, but his family was never slaughtered by Nidhogg so he grew up to be a simple, happy farmer.

YianKutku is saying that the First might have people in familiar ROLES, but they will not be copies of PEOPLE. There might be a prominent spear-user on the First with a major grudge against a powerful monster who killed his family - but he would not look like Estinien or be any sort of copy of Estinien.

Now I'm confused.
With the possible lore-bomb in the Launch Trailer, there's something that bugs me.

It's a bit more explicit in the French version, Solus says something like "Through prayers and sacrifices, this civilization created a new natural order for its planet. The Will of the Star was made manifest. [So Hydealyn is a primal, duh!]"
Assuming it is the truth; this means that on the Source before the split, there was ONE civilization that "summoned" Hydealyn. Then it must have been copied 13 times.
Fast-forward to 12 000 years later, I'd assume that the Shard populations have followed different paths (through their own culture and history), but in the end we are all linked to that original civilization on the Source before the Split, right?
So even if the chances are thin, the same serie of causes and consequences could have happened on different Shards to get similar lineages (and individuals) among the populations ?

That could be enough to explain those similar characters, yet entirely different.

Yes, there is a CHANCE it could happen. But the reason folks resist this kind of thinking is that the chances aren't just slim, they're RIDICULOUSLY slim. I mean, there's a slim chance you could spontaneously catch fire and burn to ash, for no apparent reason. If you were reading a story, and that happened to one of the characters in order to pump up the drama (onoes, my true love just died for no reason and now I'm sad!), would you consider that to be good literature?

It's bad if you use this kind of contrivance once. It's downright stupid to do it repeatedly. A logically-minded person might grimace and accept it if ONE person managed, by sheer chance, to be born in both worlds. If it happens to a LOT of people, though, the table-flipping begins.

In the case of this universe, too, the odds of causes and consequences repeating the same way on two worlds is particularly unlikely - and that's due to the Calamities. The Calamities are orchestrated by the Ascians on the Source. We do not know if similar Calamities happen on the Shards - but whether they do or not doesn't much matter. Calamities are ENORMOUSLY chaotic - even if the same kind of Calamity happened at the same time on two worlds, the odds of a given individual being affected the same way on both worlds are particularly slim. Now, repeat six more times for six more Calamities.

No, if we see doppelgangers across worlds, and the explanation is that they miraculously had the same lineage on both worlds, that's gonna completely destroy suspension of disbelief for anyone with two brain cells to rub together. If there are doppelgangers - except, maybe, for one-off "similar characters" like the wagon driver ("Hey, you remind me a lot of a guy I know on the Source! Had the same kind of job as you - guess jobs tend to attract a certain kind of person!") - they will need a better explanation than that.
