Does anyone else think infusions need to be changed in 5.0?

With all the QoL changes coming to classes, I feel like consumables are another aspect of combat that needs to be addressed.

Food is fine, since you only need one every 30-45 minutes.

Infusions on other hand, will be used as much as three times per encounter if you're trying to maximize your DPS. The problem is that they're far more annoying to create then food due to the aethersand requirements and also created in the same quantity despite how short-lived their benefits are.

A single piece of food can last you through a whole tier of savage encounters, whereas if you're popping infusions on cooldown, you're going to burn through a dozen assuming every fight lasts longer then eight minutes.

In near-optimal DoH gear, it takes me close to a hour to craft 90ish infusions (Which won't last me even a week), and it's really not uncommon for hardcore raiding FCs to have bots strictly to keep them stocked on infusions because of how rapidly a static will be chugging them during progression or even just on parse runs.

I think they need to either:

    1. Remove them entirely (They don't bring anything interesting to combat, basically just being a clunkier OGCD DPS cooldown due to being subject to animation locks.).

    2. Drastically increase the quantity created per craft (10-15 would be reasonable to me).

    3. Rework them to basically be like food but for primary stats, with a weak effect but long duration that persists through death.

I just want maximizing DPS to not involve either a boring time sink and/or significant gil expenditure.

In all honesty, you answered your question in your last sentence

That's what Infusions are there for: maximizing DPS! They are not mandatory, you don't use them during prog or simple farm. You use them for parse runs and first week kill runs.

What many people do not realise: Food and infusions are not necessary! Unless you're heavily undergeared, or - in case of a savage fight - barely reached the recommended item level, food and infusions are overkill. Their benefit in a non-optimised run is marginal.

And for what they are worth, they are wasted most of the time if you are not running with a static. DF player will do mistakes. If you insist on using food and pots and waste an hour on trying to farm certain duties, only to realise it was a trap party... that waste is totally on you, and you alone.

Yes, they do take more time and effort to craft, especially compared to food. But they should be used with caution anyway.

Now you might come up to me and say "but if use it every time I might actually carry a f*ck up, and still get the kill". Well maybe... just maybe.
But that's the same with gathering an item at 95% success rate... if it's not 100%, prepare to get nothing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe DoH will get some new skill that lets you mass produce stackable items or something.

I just really dislike the fact that I'm not performing at my absolute best without infusion spamming and the fact that I regularly see people buying them by the hundreds off the MB from the resident bot farmers suggests that I'm not alone (Though I hate the bots too much to ever consider doing the same, so I always craft them myself). I would actually use them on more trivial things like hunt marks and duty finder bosses if they weren't such a pain to amass.

I get your concern, I feel the same way. It's just a question whenever you should spam "the thing". Like I said, Infusions and Potions are for kill runs, anything else is a risk and probably not worth.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree that the amount of Infusions you get per craft is pretty low. It should be at least 5-6#.

SE increased yield get on a few items in the past (like high end ingots from 1 to 2). It's worth looking at it. But I dislike the idea of making its effect similar to food.

i know a few people that buy infusions and use them too much in a regular rotation because their dps is just bad and will do anything to raise it. more money for the crafters!

Raiding consumables are a token currency-sink for most MMOs.

I honestly never use infusions, because I think paying gil for a short-term buff is stupid lol. Unless we're constantly wiping below 10%. I will refuse to use them. I just see it as a waste of money.

    Sure, why not.

In other MMO's they're max level crafts, but rarely the 4 star endgame craft that takes an hour to make one stack like we have. In WoW I could afford to pop them quite freely even on farm runs. The materials aren't too bad but I'd be fine with bumping the yield up a bit.

I'd like to see them become more mainstream.

Changing them to infusions was the streamlining. It made them more convenient to use when you no longer need to fit as much stuff as possible into a 15s window, 30s is much more manageable. Sure it also made them more potent.

Nope. They were made for the people trying to maximize performance. If you want that performance you gotta pay for it. Not much different from IRL.

Really it's just better to learn when it's okay to be 99%.
