I actually like the ShadowBringers battle theme. I like the guitar work going into the song and I have it played in my room Orchestrion from time to time.

"Break a warrior's body, and he will thirst for vengeance. Break his spirit, and he will clamor for peace. Judge my methods distasteful if you will - but know that I seek to end this conflict, not prolong it." - Yadovv Gah, Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn
I'm referring to the "vibe" the song itself gives. There isn't an area that matches it. With Ifrit, Innocence, Bismark, Suzaku's theme, Dohn Mheg's theme, and Dragonsong, they match their locales/fights. Rencounter doesn't match anything, and that's the problem. You say this in game that has Dragonsong, Bismark's theme, actual high energy j-pop that is Suzaku's theme, and Dohn Mheg's theme.
The mass appeal for the OST is how many genres and songs there are. There is no uniform "vibe." If you'd never played, and someone played 15 seconds of Ifrit's theme, and then Innocent's, you would not think they are from the same game let alone genre.
The overworld battle music has never really fit the area that it's in, for any expansion. At *most* it gets a small difference in instrumentation used like the ARR variations did (like one area used primarily flute while another used an organ, but it's still very much the same melody and piece of music). Generally it fits closer to the thematic elements of that expansion's main song style, or in the case of Stormblood using part of the melody from the titular song as part of the battle music...and we see that again with Rencounter and Shadowbringers, with the two sharing a similar rock style of instrumentation.
The only zone I can think of where the music you hear when you fight fits the zone itself that is also an overworld zone? Azys Lla...and it doesn't use battle music, and instead keeps playing the theme for the zone (unless you get into a FATE, in which case it defaults to FATE music).
