I’m just confused as to why Dancer has a wider array of buffs and Astro only has damage up? It feels so...backwards.

If I had to guess, Dancer was designed with the idea that DPS are supposed to be buffing DPS, but that falls flat when they also said they were aiming to not have any 'mandatory' jobs. Unless the dancer skill floor is incredibly high, dancer is almost certainly always going to be wanted in a group, and I find that hilarious.
I mean, I kinda had a go with ShB AST the other day, when I drew seven Balances in a row, followed by a Spire.
It wasn't that bad...
That's what I find funny. The devs keep pushing that Dancer will never be mandatory because of all their buffs, but we all know that they will be one way or another. This makes me mad cause they got rid of all of Astro's buffs just to give them all to dancer
I was pretty heated about the Astrologian changes when they came around. Primarily with the loss of card identity and the emotional response elicited by each card when drawn. I actually like the mechanical changes for the most part with the seals and focusing on single target buffs (never liked that I didn't have to choose a target in raids), but they may as well remove all 6 cards and change it into purely Lord and Lady for melee and range, with Minor Arcana acting as an Enhanced Royal Road by sacrificing the seal. This setup for the cards would make way more sense than the current one where you're really just associated cards with melee or ranged and not what they are because that doesn't matter; it's clutter at this point. If they want to get rid of the theme of each card, they should actually commit to it.
But still, I haven't played it, so I've come to terms that I should cool off and reserve critique until then. I have a feeling I'm just going to level my Astrologian first through the MSQ and then switch to a Dancer to get that fun, random proc styled support character.

I’ve only started playing AST last week and having a blast with the cards system.
Just read what they’re doing to the cards in 5.0; makes me really sad. They’d rather just change it to 2 buffs similar to diurnal/nocturnal with a cool down and delete the cards system as a whole.
R.I.P. my dear AST. Taking away the card system and replacing it with some dumbed down 6% damage buff system is taking away the core of the AST. Time to open the freezer, put my AST in it and to sing Kumbaya
I feel the same way. Right now I'm torn between playing as much AST as I can before it changes and just cutting the cord now and moving on.
If balance is so OP, why not just change it instead. Idk ,make it 'direct hit' buff or something and change spire to 'increase healing recived' buff . SE should have just changed 2 cards and didnt bother with rework
Agreed with OP so much. The card change makes me so angry. My main healer is changed to something so dumb. The system doesn't make sense, why not just give one ability called " balance" that give aoe damage buff and remove the cards altogether. And Sleeve draw... Who has time to keep drawing cards in raids when you need to keep healing.
