Class Jobs for DoW/DoM is why I'm considering quitting FFXIV

After playing through the HW job quests for DoH/DoL I was really looking forward to the job quests for DoW/DoM … only to be profoundly disappointed. All the more so for the excessive grind required just to get a class up to 60, much less all the DoW/DoM jobs.

    - the stories are for the most part boring and unmemorable. Luckily I held off doing most of them until I was L60 in a job and did them all in one sitting. For those jobs where I did get a start, I really couldn't remember anything about the previous quests.
    - the actions you take for a quest are sometimes so token that I don't even know why they bothered except to fill a quest slot at level-so-and-so
    - *some* parts of the writing were good, like the love-to-hate-them antagonist for the MCH HW job story, but overall the plot and direction ranged from boring to tedious to nonsense -- especially compared to the DoH/DoL stories for HW which seemed to do a good job of not only making the job relevant but making you feel damn near heroic for being a non-combat profession
    - the PLD one might have been the worst so far, with the NPCs basically admitting that what happened so far was implausible and nonsensical

Maybe some of the plot twists set up a good follow-up in the SB stories, but the time required to grind out the levels just to see the story is all out of proportion to the payoff and already an excessive drain on my time. If the Beast Tribe quests gave out 3x as much XP, somewhat more akin to the crafter Beast Tribe quests, the progress rate might be more acceptable.
As it is, I spend almost all my play time each day doing HW/SB Centurio hunt, beast tribe, and most of the roulettes and I feel like I'm just inching forward just to get the jobs to 60.

With the few days remaining in this latest sub period I'm gonna try to finish up WHM and possibly AST stories. Then take a very long break to reflect on why I bothered coming back to FFXIV.

Yeah, take a break. Sounds like you need it. Besides, the changes in 5.0 are likely to frustrate you further and they'll be prob be easier to accept after some time away from game.

You're power leveling without doing any of your job quests? Hope you're running PotD. Which probably also explains the burnout. If not, well, players you group with would probably benefit from you taking a break as well.

Hmm, it sounds like you're obligating yourself to do all the classes or something? Anyway, if you're not having fun playing a game, there really is only one conclusion to make; don't do it.

It's not healthy to force yourself to do these things, especially since it's a game and not an activity required to stay alive (if you get my grip here). If you insist on playing the game, see what jobs you'll like on a job-mechanical level and try to ignore the story. In the end it's more important that you like how they play as you'll be doing that a LOT more then it's story, which you only do once. It's kind of designed as the opposite from what you mentioned really, you play the class to do the majority of this game's content with it, the story is more a bonus. Maybe that's the reason they made it so there is only a class quest at lv 80 in Shadowbringers, with Role Quests taking over the story that would be in between.

Regardless, hope you are feeling better now that you were able to get some things off your chest.
