I don't think this is a pity thread, this is more of a rant than anything (at least how the thread started) , based on the changes of societal norms. It is kinda a mean thing to do to just label the thread pity seeking and an over reaction, though.
As for why he didn't mention anything and left, sometimes if you bring something up about something you didn't like about someone popular in the FC, it just turns that group of people against you, which I actually experienced on Runescape as a kid. Better to leave without a word sometimes.

Words only mean stuff because we attribute meanings to them. Without that, they're merely pixels on a screen, sounds resonating from vocal chords, etc.

With the invention of the internet, every word in existence has a "normal meaning" and an "internet meaning".

When they say something about cancer, they don't mean cells mutated to have uncontrolled cell division.

When they say something about autism, they don't mean the neurological condition by the same name.

An expression doesn't become a thing or funny to someone unless they also find some relief in it's actual meaning - internet 'meme sayings' have their value because they don't just 'trigger a lol', the people repeating them also somewhat agree with the underlying statement's meaning, intent, and/or tone - that is in fact what triggers that lol...

It's basically the same as 'racist jokes'... nobody actually says a racist joke unless they actually agree with it... and they then just use 'it's just a joke' as cover. It gives them an 'approved way out' of being called on their own intentions by others also 'in on the intent'... (the same note applies to sexist jokes and so on).

If you don't harbor some actual ill-will, and a disrespect for people 'on the spectrum' - you don't make an 'autism joke'. You just... don't. It simply will not occur to the mind of a person who isn't biased to even think of that statement.

The 'cancer' one is basically a 'way out' because it sounds more severe than any harm a sane person would actually wish... but it's just using exaggeration to mask ill intent.


We actually know that... it's not that 'internet meanings are different'... it's actually that the 'internet meaning' mindset is radicalizing us offline... Extremism on all sides of every topic is rising, as the internet is teaching us to disconnect ourselves from self-judgement. The 'YouTube algorithm' of serving up increasingly shock and outrage content, and the same habit in online discussions, is leading people to increasingly partisan and hostile viewpoints about... every aspect of life.

Except many do, even when they don't agree with them. I really don't know where you're going with this. How the stereotypes come into existence is one thing, but once they do, people make jokes about them whether they agree with them or not.

This is no different. People are using these words because they're popular to use.

Bending to every little thing that offends people is why PC culture is so prevalent today. It's a cancer that needs to be eradicated. In short, tell the sensitive flakes to get bent. There's an ignore function for a reason.
