why i quit before reaching endgame (feedback from a new player)

    hello

i tested this game for 2 weeks now, reached level 60 and quit the game during the dragonsong quests. most annoying game of all time. this is my experience:

go to npc -----> cutscene -----> accept quest -----> cutscene -----> make quest -----> go to npc -----> cutscene ------> accept new quest -----> cutscene -----> go to next npc -----> cutscene
    -----> do quest -----> cutscene -----> go to npc -----> cutscene -----> accept dungeon-quest -----> cutscene -----> enter dungeon -----> cutscene -----> arrive first boss -------> cutscene
-----> arive next boss -----> cutscene -----> arrive last boss -----> cutscene -----> defeat last bos -----> cutscene ------> go out of dungeon ------> cutscene-...................

WTF. from 2 weeks of playing i watched at least 1,5 weeks cutscenes without doing anything than watching. i quit this collection of cutscenes yesterday. i don't want to watch cutscenes for weeks just to be able to play the game i paid for! i love good lore and dont have a problem with some cutscenes, but this is absoluteley ridiculous.

Join a story driven MMO and you get story. Sorry that you didn't enjoy your time here. I would however like to point out that you can skip each and every cutscene you come across.

Honestly, I said screw the story and cutscenes back when Shiva was the big new thing and while I admit parts make me go "Wait, what?" when I do decide to watch it hasn't hurt the game play at all for me, but I play for that. Why I kinda chuckle when I get the prompt "There will be several cutscenes, please set time" or whatever it is. Skip, skip, skip, skip.

Sorry this game wasn't your type of game.

This game is all about it's story and by extention its cutscenes. I understand that it may not be to everyone taste.

May you find a game to your liking o/

you can press escape to skip cut scenes then watch most in the Inn room later. In the options there is a check box to not play previously viewed cut scenes. (Except the Damn MSQ one).

But yeah if you don't like it best to move on because they don't go away.

WOW I type to slow, so many posts!

Byeee, maybe a game with no story is more up your alley. Or rather, one that isn't in a JRPG formula.

I think it's not that there are cutscenes, but the frequency of it.
Tried to get this across in another thread, but it's just stupid that it fades into letterbox with camera movements just for like 10 lines of text.
I get an item, I walk 10 meters to the guy and: Cutscene.

You know, when Minfillia and I think Urianger were explaining the Aether (what happens when you die etc.)- that was cool and a real meaningful cutscene.
The OP made it pretty clear with this simplified flowchart that there are too many cutscenes. The way they are set up has nothing to do with this game being "story-driven".
Imagine your boss is not giving you 10 tasks at once for that workday but instead wants a meeting every 30 minutes for every task scattered all over the day.

Right now it's simliar for me (according to the quest list I am just a few quests short of the Amphiteathre): How often did Alphinaud talk to me about small details that I observed myself already? There is no need that every character so far has to intervene and share their two cents. Just make one big cutscene. Talking about why "The Weaver" did this and that is not worth of fading in and out the screen every 5 minutes.

There are a lot of quests now. You can reduce it by skipping sidequests that aren't blue.

You can also skip a cut scene if you feel it's not going to be important enough. You can go back and watch said cut scene by clicking The Unending Journey at an Inn if you make a mistake.

When 5.0 is released in a month, you'll be able to use New Game+ to redo the quests later on if you regret having skipped their cut scenes.

I feel for you, and you'll have a better response (maybe) from the subreddit as they aren't quite as die-hard about the whole "THIS IS A STORY DRIVEN MMO, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT??!" bs. It's an MMO, with a forced story. That's it. It's truly a shame that they ham fist it down your throat as it does turn away people (like yourself).

I skip the story myself, and I would say that if you can get past the obscene amount of MSQ items, you may find things you enjoy on the other side. Perhaps just take a break from the slog and come back to it to see if you feel any different. Just prepare yourself for a lot more of the same, at least until you're caught up on the MSQ.
