Game is a ghost town after server split.

I expected this would happen, splitting 2 big data centers into 3 smaller ones. But not to this extent. And when people log in, see nothing going on in party finder or especially eureka they just log back out, exasperating the problem. I don't know if the split was required for world transfers to be possible, or if they're anticipating a big influx of new players to fill all 3 when the expansion releases. But for now I've been losing interest in the game when I log in and see nothing going on. This will be my last month subbing for a while, I don't plan on playing the expansion unless I see positive things about it a few months after release. If you're going to fracture a player-base so much, maybe work on cross data-center party finders or instancing to keep the illusion of high population? I feel like I'm playing a Solo-MMORPG.

Don't forget that it's also near the end of this expansion, a lot of people are taking a break from the game until Shadowbringers comes out, or are only really logging in to chat with their friends. So I wouldn't worry about it just yet. I'd personally wait for Shadowbringers to come out (and even then, maybe sit it out for a few weeks until things have settled down after the initial increase in players returning) before making any conclusions.

Same tbh, made a new alt on Famfrit because reasons and even in lowbie areas or out-of-the-way places like N.Shroud I still see a good amount of people.

I've actually seen more "realm is full" messages in the last week or so than I have since Stormblood launched.

It's...weird. Among the people on my friends list, the people in my FC, etc etc, it seems like a ghost town at times. But...there is also something else I noticed.

As a dps main, I have very long queue times and have learned to deal with it. I don't like crafting, gathering, or changing jobs while in a queue because I've had bad experiences in the past of having crafts interrupted or timing out and being automatically withdrawn (usually due to "being in combat"). So, to pass the time, I spam fates for GC seals. My zone of choice is usually Coerthas Central Highlands. Ever since I pretty much joined this game after Stormblood's release, that zone has almost always been a ghost town. In recent weeks, however, the zone is packed. There are people wandering around doing fates, quests, etc. Most of them are sprouts, but not all. I'm still not quite used to it. I'm so used to my Coerthas grinding being my "alone time".

I don't know who all these people are, but they're there and they're not bots.

Strange that you are on the Aether data center and I haven't seen anything near as drastic as what you are describing. More or less the same lull that happened before Heavensward and Stormblood given where we are before the expansion. Even so there are still plenty of people to play with.
