Alt players and the future.

Hello all,

I also have 7 alts all level 70 and all manually pushed though the MSQ *gag*.

The main reason for me to create alts is the RP aspect I guess.

For example my machinist is called First name "Miss" last name "Fortune" and she has a very specific look and feel.

Each alt has a name and a theme, a different personality. All 7 are very different and the game play is different. It helps me get more immersed in the game. I agree it's mostly for personal solo RP.

The one thing I hate is the Alt Gates. I can't do this dungeon with my NIN because I didn't unlock said Trial, Dungeon, Raid.. etc.. "Where does that quest chain start again." "Hold on while I do these sets of quest again."

I would LOVE to see "Blue quest", if I finished it on my main, it's auto finished on my alt. Not the MSQ (mostly because, if I had to do it then you must to. Or cough up real money and "Buy" you way though) because expansions are gated behind it as well as "Flying". The MSQ has to much connected to it.. but there are a SO many Blue quest that can be cut out for alts that have NO apparent reason at all. There are several that you pick up run to the guy to unlock the dungeon and you finish, you don't even have to run the dungeon. WTF is the point of that? Just let my Alt's have default access.

Also as others mentioned Achievements, I play all my Alt's at a consistent rate they all have 100-200 commendations. I did all the work just like people who have only one Chr.. but I don't get the Achievements because my work is spread out between 7 alts.

In the grand scheme of things it's not that big of a deal. I would be nice to Alts factored in.

SE is slowly eliminating the reasons for players to need alts.

Except for the simple matter of being able to have multiple characters available to you simultaneously, without requiring a Fantasia or name change.

Unless they develop a system where you can have an entire party accompanying your "single character" and can swap between them at will (which would be fantastic), alts will be needed.

A lot of these things would likely only work for ALTs on the same datacenter.
A lot of people though, I'd wager, make ALTs specifically to have a character on multiple datacenters.

Why are you capitalising "alt" (alternative character) like it's an acronym?

So, I was thinking, hypothetically, if FFXIV gets the the old wow 12million sub count what will they do for alt players?

I think perhaps you are confusing players with subs... the game is nowhere near 12 million subscriptions. Be lucky if its 1 most of the time.

Hell were still running on a number of servers that was designed to handle upto half a million players I think they said in beta. And outside of adding new data centres (for latency reasons not population reasons). The number of active worlds hasn't grown at all. Evident by how many existing worlds are almost barren....

The game has no problem pulling in hundreds or even thousands of new players each month but the reality is it loses them just as fast if not faster... if the population was actually increasing servers would have been overloaded by now....

I have two alts and will be leveling a third when those two catch up on MSQ (I was going to stop at two but I found a 1.0 rotting on another server and want to use it)

I primarily play this game for character building, and I can't do that on one character or they'd eventually become some Master of Everything who I don't find interesting as a character, so I split them up.

I'd be happy to just add them as friends so I can teleport to my main's house, but obviously things like mog station items being account-wide should be standard too.

I have three alts that I play regularly, two at max level.

What I'd like to see:
- shared housing between all alts on the same data centre (was promised, not delivered so far)
- alt characters able to mail each other
- Mog-station purchases made account-wide (might not be practical judging from some of the things Yoshi has said in the past)
- the option to have our achievements made account-wide

Compared to other games FFXIV is not very alt-friendly. I know we don't need alts but if I didn't have mine, I'd probably have been playing another game since early spring. My alts give me a reason to stay subbed and I'm happy to pay a little extra for them; however, I do think the game could accommodate players like me a little more.

i have 1 alt for each race i like while i plan 2 switch 2 bunny because i have a lala alt a kitty etc ... if it wasn't for my alts woulda spent 75 every 2 months on race changing lol

Alts serve only a few purposes, You RP and have a different personality. You like clogging up server space. You for some reason are not satisfied with your race and constantly need instant gratification. That's it really.
