As someone who has 7 alts (to play with friends scattered on different servers & data centers or try starting on a role that I'm not experienced with) in XIV, I think the only thing I would want to become alt-friendly is making more Mog Station purchases be account-wide.

I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.

SE is slowly eliminating the reasons for players to need alts.

We can already have every job on a single character if we want. No reason to make a new alt just for the sake of playing a new job.

New Game+ might eliminate the need to make an alt to replay through the MSQ and side stories (which is the primary reason why I make alts). We still don't know enough about NG+ to know if it will effectively serve that purpose.

World visit now allows us to play with our friends on other worlds in the same data center so we don't necessarily need to make an alt in those cases. We still need alts to play with friends if they're spread across multiple data centers, though. I imagine that might always be a problem across regions even if they're eventually able to connect all data centers within the same region. But if we're making an alt solely to play with friends, there's no need for that alt to have everything. Just level it up and and focus on getting the items that alt would actually be using instead of going to into completionist mode trying to do and get everything on each character.

Like others, about the only alt "enhancement" I would like to see is more of the mog station items being made account wide instead of single character. Jump and skip potions already exist for those players who want to get an alt up to speed to play through content with friends.

I dont really understand this mind set of "just pay money to skip". That isn't going to be a good enough answer for the 3-4 million-ish subs.

What if they dont have the money to waste on skip potions?

Then they can level them normally. Don't get me wrong, if SE at some point wants to throw a bone and give an exp bonus or something to alt characters then that is fine... but I very much disagree with it being something that will be necessary at any point.

    Also, this thread looks familiar.

By the time the sub count reaches 5 million you're going to have a lot of people who will make subs for fun and for leveling up new classes. They may still be the minority but, it will be a big minority at 12 mil.

Even if it's a quarter of 12 mil, (3 millionish?) That's going to be too many to ignore if they all post on the forums about "alt equality" and "love for alts".

What do you think the devs will do? Should they do anything? What would you do?

Do you have alts? Do you mind people who make alts? Would you be opposed to making content easier for alts?
How should they make it easier for alts?
Its already super easy to lvl up to max and gear up, you have the road to 60 and etc bonuses, palace of death, roulette and stuff. They even have a option to skip story all together and even buy easy lvl 60 ticket for each job.

There is nothing SE could really do anymore, unless they just put "auto play" button like in phone games which plays it for lazy player LOL.

Wait are we saying character = sub here? Wording of the OP confuses me...

    - Mogstation purchases account-wide
    - Account-wide achievements/minions/mounts (WoW learned this lesson)
    - Shared storage
    - Ability to share housing
    - Mailing alts
    - XP bonus on alts for having a max level character
    - Account-wide access to glamour choices

None of those are impossible. They all exist in other games. Some decades older than XIV. SE needs to join the modern era and realize that people make alts for various reasons.
A lot of these things would likely only work for ALTs on the same datacenter.
A lot of people though, I'd wager, make ALTs specifically to have a character on multiple datacenters.

It didn't. Nobody forced him to get a Regalia. Hell, I didn't do Valentines Day or Hatching Tide or the new years event. I ain't any worse for wear.

Level boost does not skip the story. That's a different ticket all together. And you still have to unlock the other stuff through the story before you can use them.

The problem with the road to 60 is you out level the content which makes it feel pointless. Leveling isn't an issue to me. It's the story grind for alts. I'm not advocating for new players but player who already grinded through the 500+ MSQ.
